Byron Bay is located just 1 hour and 45 minutes south of Brisbane, in Northern New South Wales, making this a perfect destination for a weekend away or honeymoon. There is something about Byron that makes you feel transported to a different part of the world – perhaps it’s the laid-back hippy nature of the locals that rubs off and allows you to simply feel… free.

I believe Byron has it all – from the beautiful surf break, to the Cape Byron Lighthouse, to the array of culture-filled shops, all set against a backdrop of sub-tropical rainforest.

Cape Byron is the Australian mainland’s most easterly point. It is here that the Cape Byron Lighthouse sits proudly, and has become a popular destination for visitors and proposals. The views are simply gorgeous from the Captain Cook Lookout, and nothing beats breathing in the salty air. There are a number of walking trails, and you can quite easily take a stroll from the beach up to Cape Byron.

Byron Bay Beach Hotel is a favourite watering hole for locals and tourists alike. Grab a beverage, relax under the trees on the fake turf, and enjoy the sounds of local live music. The Beach Hotel is literally situated across the road from the beach so is easily accessible.

A visit to the area wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Byron Bay Markets. They are held on the 1st Sunday of every month (plus the 3rd Sunday in December and January), and cover several acres for your browsing benefit. Bring some coins along as you’ll want to try the iced tea at very least, and may want to pick up an item or two as well.

This post would not be complete without mentioning that Byron contains the best Mexican I’ve ever had from a little place called Ozy Mex… when friends from California introduce you to it, you know it’s going to be good! Ozy Mex is located a few blocks back from the beach at 8 Jonson Street, and is definitely worthwhile. Try out their fish tacos, or layer up on nachos goodness.

Bring on the beach-time weather lovers!
