Tell us about your Wedding!

It was so fun!  On a very cold and dreary July day in 2006, I married my sweetheart.  It was 13 degrees, bucketing rain and I didn’t feel one bit cold –  all I could feel was the excitement of getting married.  We had two ceremonies, one Greek and one English and an awesome reception at Sumac – south warf (at the old location on the other side of the river).  There was a banquet of food, making sure no relative went hungry and we managed to get a few solid hours of Greek dancing in too!  We had an absolute ball.

What was your most memorable moment (or moments!)?

I truly loved the tradition of the Greek church – and whilst we had two ceremonies at two different locations, our guests were delighted with attending both – we had amazing praise for how beautiful it all was.  I’ve long been obsessed with Becco in the city, so having our photos taken there was very special (and it managed to stop raining for 5 minutes to get those photos taken).  The entire day was special – so many magical moments.  Our best man was a pyrotechnician – so dancing with floor effects was pretty special.  The entire day was just beautiful.

If you could change one thing, what would it be?

Hmmm – I wish it could have gone for a week!  There’s not much I would change – everything ticked boxes for me.  I can’t even say the weather because it made the day somehow beautiful too.  So I guess to change one thing would have been to party on a little more into the wee hours of the night – although I crashed as soon as we reached our hotel!

Who are your favourite vendors?

I was super happy with both our venue – Sumac.  Pleasing many hungry Europeans was super easy and there was so much delicious food.  I must say – reception food is often awful.

Also our photographer – Astir Images were amazing and my album, 6 years on still gets comments.

My dress was made and designed by a quaint dress maker in the country – I don’t even know where she is now but she did an amazing job!

What advice do you have for others planning their wedding?

In the lead up – don’t let the little things get you stressed.  It always works out.  My imported immerse-able lights for the centerpieces soon became an obsession that quite possibly no guest remembers!

Get the best photographer you can afford.  That is the memory that lives on and your constant reminder of your beautiful day.

On the day – at one moment, remember to stand back and watch on and observe.  The day goes by so fast, you’ll never get it back again.  It’s nice to step out of the picture for a second and soak it all up.
