The story of Zac and I started at uni, in the library, where he walked past me casually and caught my eye. I knew from that moment that I had to speak to him! I started to bombard my friend with questions about whether she knew him and it turned out she did. She introduced us and since then we have spent almost every day together. That was almost 9 years ago! Still to this day, if you asked Zac how we met, he says it was him who spotted me and asked to be introduced.
After uni and our first couple of years of work, Zac and I packed our lives into two small bags and travelled to London to live. There was no doubt that we were going to spend the rest of our lives together. We were overseas for almost three years and the whole time I had my fingers and toes crossed that he would propose in an exotic location. We travelled to Spain, Italy, Egypt… and there was no proposal. I even stood under the Eiffel Tower for an extended amount of time (longer than one probably should) waiting but still nothing. He would simply smile and laugh and tell me to stop waiting and enjoy the scenery.
After several trips around Europe (while we weren’t teaching), we decided to return to sunny Queensland. Just two weeks after we arrived in Brisbane, Zac planned a camping trip to Northern New South Wales. It was here, surrounded by beautiful beaches that Zac proposed. His proposal took place in our tent, on a picnic blanket with a delicious picnic made up of all the foods we had fallen in love with during our travels overseas. Zac admitted that he had always planned his proposal to be somewhere familiar which we loved. I still start smiling when I think of all my silly waiting in Europe and then compare it to the most beautiful proposal, filled with personal touches and most of all exactly what we wanted it to be about – us.
Zac and I recently had the pleasure of having our engagement photos taken by Lisa Clark. We spent the whole time laughing and having such fun. We’re incredibly happy with the beautiful photos as she managed to capture Zac’s very cheeky personality but most of all how much we love each other!
Our engagement shoot was taken at New Farm Park in Brisbane and we had some photos taken at the Powerhouse as well. We have had countless picnics there so it was an easy choice for us. I am completely blown away with the beautiful lighting she managed to capture. I went a little bit mad with some lovey dovey props like a chalkboard (as we’re both teachers), fresh flowers and ‘I love you’ canvases. I’m a hopeless romantic so that kind of thing is right down my alley. Our wedding is going to have lots of those little touches so I wanted to have a common theme in our engagement shoot.
Our ceremony is at Newstead Park on the waterfront in Brisbane under some big old trees. After the ceremony, we’ve booked to have coffees, drinks and yummy platters at Shucked Coffee House in Newstead which is the cutest little coffee shop. Shucked Coffee House is a gorgeous little café situated in a side street near the waterfront. Its décor is the perfect mix of retro style and urban trend. After we’ve had our photos taken, we’ll meet Pure Adrenalin at Newstead Park and spend the rest of the night watching the beautiful cityscape of Brisbane pass by. This boat is just beautiful (the Queen travelled down the Brisbane River on it when she came last year). I am so excited!
Ms Gingham says: Such a gorgeous couple! We wish Zac and Holly all the very best!
Holly says: I’m a 27 year old teacher who lives in Brisbane. After 8 years of planning my own wedding in my head, my lovely fiancé Zac proposed. I have spent the last year planning what I think will be my most delightful day yet. Small obsessions of mine include:
1. fashion magazines
2. sushi
3. red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing
4. glomesh bags
what a gorgeous photo shoot! I’m also having my engagment photos in Brisbane, in the Botanical Gardens and southbank and I too am in love with lovey dovey things so this post caught me eye. Can I ask where the chalkboard is from?
All the best for your wedding! It sounds like it will be beautiful.
Thank you for your lovely comments! The chalkboard was bought at Typo 🙂
What a beautiful run of photos. They show everything that is special about a couple and a “wedding to be”. Thanks.
I love Holly’s dress in this shoot! Where is it from?
