It seems it’s the season for wedding books to grace the bookstores and it’s about time I stopped poring over them and started reviewing them for you!

First up is a brand new Australian title – The Australian Wedding Book by Kate White. Kate, owner of Sydney catering business Katering has written the book to “allow you to have your dream wedding, not someone else’s”. Along with beautiful imagery from photographers I know and love (including a number of real life weddings) incredible sketches and drawings each focusing in on a section of Kate’s guide (meaning that flower or diamond shape is not so much left to the imagination as it is beautifully drawn or photographed).

Often comprehensive planning guides such as this are American based, so you end up having to ignore large parts of the book (rehearsal dinner, groom’s cake and other such traditions that are not a part of Australian weddings). The Australian Wedding Book eliminates this with every page relating to what we do, the way we plan, the traditions we have. The guides written throughout the book are not limited to a classic ballroom reception – they’re adaptable to your own celebration – whether it may be a cocktail function in the evening to  long lunch with scrumptious food.

Starting with the announcement of your engagement, the book travels through the journey of planning a wedding (covering The Who, The Where and The When) and flows into essential prickly questions such as invitation wording, the bridal gown (including beautifully drawn illustrations and fabric photographs), the decor (flowers, lighting and tables) right down to music, photography and videography and finally down to the tidbits like anniversary guides, timelines and wedding cake recipes.

Through the book are scattered full page, coloured photos of beautiful Australian weddings and tips & tricks from well known Australian wedding professionals such as Whitemoss, Jan Logan, Papier D’Amour, Wedding List Co and Grandiflora just to name a few.

At 380 pages with it’s hard bound silver luxurious embossed cover it’s fair to say The Australian Wedding Book is somewhat of an encyclopedia of Australian weddings.

The Australian Wedding Book retails for AU$75 and is available at all good bookstores and online.

The Wedding Book was sent to Polka Dot Bride for editorial consideration in accordance with our disclosure policy.
