A great way to bring a group of girls together is with a bridal shower afternoon tea. These don’t have to be big productions … all you need is a venue and some willing participants.
For one that we organised recently, we asked the girls to either make something for the bride, or to bake something for the afternoon tea. Generally speaking everyone is either creative with their hands or good in the kitchen! If not there is always the bakery.
We then chose a colour scheme for the afternoon. Ours was pinks, reds, and whites. We carried these colours through the decorations for the day.
To decorate the table we purchased some stripy and spotty fabric from the shops and hemmed it for the table cloth and then cut it into smaller squares and hemmed these for the napkins. I think this almost worked out cheaper than buying disposables, and it looked a lot better! It cost $20 for the fabric which gave us enough for 20 serviettes and 1 table cloth.
For the flowers, we just grabbed a bunch from the florist in the colours for the day. We cut these down into smaller posies and placed these along the table. The flowers were a grand total of $6.
We also made a punch (red of course) as well as having tea and coffee on offer.
As a gift to the bride, everyone supplied their recipes to us, which we wrote down on cards that matched the invitations.
The girls made a fabulous selection of baked goodies … from cup cakes to smoked salmon bites, to coconut cakes and mini quiches. The table looked fabulous and everyone took great pride in swapping their tips and recipes!

MS Gingham says: It’s such a nice, personal touch to print up the recipes and present them to the bride. If you bound them into a folder it would be a lovely keepsake too! I love the theme … after all Polka Dots and Stripes are close to our heart!

The business started when James and I got married and I designed our own wedding invitations. From there I did some more for a friend, and then friends of friends … it just kept growing! I have worked as a pattern and trend forecaster, illustrator, graphic designer and toy designer. Owning my own design business was always a dream. The next stop for Fi Fy Fo Fum Designs is to develop a retail range … we’d love to take over the world with “simply beautiful stationery!”
