Caitlyn and Simon

On a dreary Friday afternoon, I love to revel in the beauty of outdoor weddings. Caitlyn and Simon married in a beautiful Perth park ceremony with the most delicious, summery colours and atmosphere. It warms the winter chill in my bones to read today’s wedding story.

Caitlyn tells the story of meeting Simon. “My best friend was working at a café which was undergoing some renovations at the time. She saw a handsome young guy working on the project and asked his supervisor for his number. As she was dating someone at the time she handed it on to me. We started to text each other even though I had never seen him. I finally made up an excuse to visit my friend’s workplace to check this guy out. I saw his car first and fell in love hehe! I was so nervous that he might see me, but it was love at first sight for me!”

Today’s photographs are by Angela Higgins, Angela has this calm, beautiful way of capturing images. They’re graceful and ever so beautiful, it’s always a pleasure to see her name in our inbox.

Simon wore a suit from Penguin Suit Hire.

Whirligig Designs created the floral arrangements for the wedding day while Caitlyn found her shoes at “a boutique store in Bali.”

Caitlyn wore a gown from Tuscany Bridal while her bridesmaids wore soft lilac coloured gowns from Armadale Wedding Centre.

Caitlyn and Simon were married at Perth’s Hyde Park in Leederville.

Caitlin walked down the aisle to ‘Just The Way You Are’ – Bruno Mars. She says “My Mum actually suggested this song and I kind of rolled my nose up at it. But after her explaining that it was what her and my Dad would be thinking along with everyone else on the day, I fell in love completely!”

The nieces of Caitlyn formed the flowergirl contingent of the bridal party, with many a funny story to be had. Caitlyn recalls “Up until the wedding we had tried to explain to my nieces, who were the flower girls, Amelia, Alla and Lilly about walking down the aisle and basically walking to their NanD (my Mum) or to their Mummy (Simon’s sister). Come the wedding day the two four year old girls were so excited and walked down the aisle holding hands like they had known each other for years (they had only just met). As soon as Amelia saw her NanD, she started running towards her! Soon the other two flower girls followed suit and were running as well! It was a long aisle so they were worn out by the end! At least they followed instructions! It was gorgeous! Amelia ran straight into my Mum’s arms and gave her a huge cuddle, then ran over to Alla and Lilly’s Mum and gave her a cuddle too!”

Family was important to Caitlyn. “I had all three of my sisters as my bridesmaids. I also had my Mum and Simon’s Mum sign the register, my Mum was my pillar of strength during the whole organisation and at the end of it all Mum’s don’t get to do anything. So I thought I would have them sign the register to make them know we love them.”

The littlest bridal party member, made the biggest stamp on the day. Caitlyn remembers “Whilst Simon and I were saying our vows, Amelia our niece was very interested in what was going on. Our photographer captured her bent over and listening in to what we had to say. I think if I had looked at her she would have come right up to me and asked to sit on my hip! But that is what I love about her!”

Caitlyn and Simon celebrated with the guests at Ascot Quays in Ascot.

Caitlyn and Simon’s wedding “cake” consisted of purple iced cupcakes and was created by Whirligig Designs. Their wedding stationery was designed by Bumbleberry Boutique Stationery Design, Caitlyn recalls “I actually chose to have the invitations sent to me in pieces and had to glue them together myself! I had my awesome Mum, Aunty and Uncle help me glue me together.”

The first dance was an impulsive choice from Caitlyn. “We danced to ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love With You’ by Elvis Presley.

Simon isn’t much of a dancer and picking a song was hard as ‘our’ song (‘Unchained Melody’) was so typical and wasn’t something we wanted to dance to at our wedding. We like to be different, but still wanted something that meant something. So make the song memorable for us one night when I was listening to the song, I turned off all the lights in the house and dragged my then fiancé to the spare room and made him dance with me for thirty seconds to make us remember a romantic event linked to this song.”

Congratulations Caitlyn and Simon! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us on Polka Dot Bride! Thank you also to by Angela Higgins, for sharing today’s photographs!
