Representation matters and it matters to us. Representation matters and it matters to us.

And while we have been scouring blogs and feeds for weddings to increase the diversity of our features, there is one area we need your help with.

If you're disabled or live with a chronic illness, we want to share your wedding. Even if the part of your life is invisible.

We want to share your wedding, your photographs. We want (if you want to include) to share how you dealt with it, what you wish you knew beforehand. We want to share your story. It isn't about tokenism or checking a box, but instead making sure, that we constantly & consistently have stories of couples with all kinds of backgrounds, experiences and lives together on Polka Dot Wedding. It is making sure this part of our community (so often overlooked when talking inclusion) is, indeed, included.

When exactly did "tradition" in weddings turn into When exactly did "tradition" in weddings turn into such a dirty word?

When did it become something to cringe at?

Tradition in weddings is everywhere- it's in the fact you walked down the aisle, it's in your wedding cake. It's in your tea ceremonies. It's even carrying a bouquet.

And there is something actually quite lovely about recreating the rituals that have been passed on from generation to generation. That those before you also went through.

Because let's be real, it isn't tradition that anyone really dislikes, it's the idea that you're doing rituals, and things at your wedding, that you really don't want to do, that you're really not a fan of, and doing them because you think you have to.

And if that's what we're really railing against? Then we're for sure jumping on that bandwagon. Your wedding completely needs to be what you want not what you think you should do. Let's stop shaming tradition, and instead embrace that whatever you choose for your wedding day, is perfect whether it's "traditional" or not.

Me? We ditched the separation the night before the wedding, we ditched the formal reception entrance, the garter and the bouquet toss. And for sure I was the last one on the dance floor. But there was a dance with my dad, there was a walk down the aisle, there was "something old, something new" and I loved it all.
