It’s New Years Eve! Which means it’s time for our New Year’s Eve tradition of counting down the  most memorable celebrity weddings of 2009! Check out our 2008 and 2007 countdowns here and here.

In no particular order, here are the twelve celebrity weddings which left a lasting impression here at Polka Dot Bride…

1.  Ivanka Trump & Jared Kushner

One of the weddings of the year, Ivanka wed on one of her father Donald Trump’s properties, Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey, in a Grace Kelly inspired gown. Designer Vera Wang created glamorous sleeves for Ivanka’s gown and even created the lace. Ivanka wore jewels from her own label- the Ivanka Trump collection.

2. Juli Grbac and Paul Edge

Winner of Project Runway Australia’s Season 1 Juli Grbac wed fiance Paul in a “official” ceremony earlier this year. The bride wore three gowns- two designed and created by herself and a third (the going away ensemble) by Leigh Buchanan- Project Runway Australia S1 Runner Up. In a nod to Paul’s job, the couple were able to take to the tarmac and had photographs with a Virgin Blue plane.

3. Lisa Loeb and Roey Hershkovitz

Singer Lisa Loeb married Roey Hershkovitz in an emotional New York ceremony. A winter wonderland theme including a fireplace logo and tiny porcelain deers was created for guests to celebrate.

4. Kristy Hinze & Jim Clark

Model and host of Project Runway Australia Kristy Hinze married Jim Clark in a beach side ceremony in the Caribbean. The bride wore Oscar De La Renta and carried a bouquet of green lilliums.

5. Fergie and Josh Duhamel

Singer Fergie wed Josh in a Californian ceremony. With a classic black and white colour scheme, the bride, the groom and their very large bridal party were all dressed in Dolce & Gabbana. Features of the wedding included a 150 pound wedding cake in the shape of a castle and a caricature of the couple on the wedding invitation.

6. Cathy Freeman & James Murch

Olympic Gold Medalist Cathy Freeman married her best friend James  in a dusty pink Mariana Hardwick gown outside Melbourne at Spray Farm. A traditional Naha’i ceremony and smoking ceremony were part of the wedding with Cathy carrying a bouquet of roses, dusty miller foliage and lisianthus.

7. Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S Anderson

Milla Jovovich married husband Paul in Malibu earlier this year. Milla wore a vintage style Grecian gown she designed herself and carried a bouquet of white orchids.The wedding featured a four tier wedding cake and guests hit the dance floor to a Cuban band.

8. Tara Moss & Dr. Berndt Sellheim

Our very own Samm Blake captured the wedding of  model and crime writer Tara Moss and Dr. Berndt. Tara carried a bouquet of red roses to complement her vibrant red fish tail gown designed by Alex Perry. The couple married at Voyager Estate in Margaret River. (See a full length shot here)

9. Natasha Bendingfield & Matt Robinson

Singer Natasha Bendingfield married Matt in an outdoor ceremony Malibu early in 2009. Bridesmaids were dressed in vibrant purple knee length gowns while Natasha wore Vera Wang.


10. Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault

Marrying on Valentine’s Day, Salma wore a Balenciaga gown by Nicolas Ghesquiere and a long veil. The couple made it official in Paris but celebrated their wedding at the Venice Opera House. The couple’s children acted as the bridal party and guests sang “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” during the ceremony.

11. Christina Hendricks and Goeffrey Adrend

Mad men star Christina Hendricks married Geoffrey in a New York ceremony. With a rich autumn colour palette, bridesmaids wore individual gowns while the groom was clad in a chocolate brown suit. The bride wore a gown by Carolina Herrera with a long lace trimmed veil.
