It’s clear that an artist’s touch was woven throughout today’s whimsical wedding! Diana worked not only as the bride but also as the creative lead, designing an ethereal floral atmosphere that took our breath away. This romantic styling, paired with the blending of Australian and Colombian cultures, added a special charm to Troy and Diana’s day. Captured by the talented teams from The Runaway Hearts and Art of Grace, they can forever relive their hard work!
After both swiping right, Diana and Troy quickly planned their first date in the height of Melbourne’s chilly winter. A date that was almost cancelled because Diana couldn’t find the original bar they were meeting at – instead, they decided to go to Arbory. “The date was memorable because it was a cold Melbourne winter day, and Arbory was flooded. Our umbrella even collapsed on us. Diana was very open and outgoing from the start. We spoke for hours, and I remember how genuine and beautiful (and struggling with Melbourne cold) she was from the start,” Troy shared.
Fast forward four years, as Troy and Diana were in Colmar, France, celebrating a new kind of milestone for their relationship. “It’s a beautiful town that inspired ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ and looked like the Beauty and the Beast film. Our house overlooked a wooden bridge that stretched over a canal covered with fairy lights. Troy brought cheese and wine from a local market, and we had dinner on the balcony where he proposed – there were even two swans in the canal outside!” Diana gushed.
For this beautiful, whimsical wedding, Troy opted for a timeless look. Picking out a classic black suit, with clean, elegant lines that perfectly complemented the ethereal atmosphere of the day.
His wedding party wore matching classic black suits.
In the lead-up to their special day, Diana was extremely unwell, to the point where they weren’t certain she’d make it through all the festivities. “But whether it was pure excitement or the celebratory aguardiente, she was full of energy from start to finish and only completely crashed after the celebration ended.”
On Diana’s side, she had four of her best friends, all from her home in Colombia. “The women wore ethereal sage-green dresses, and the men wore coordinating suits,” she explained.
Diana herself wanted something ethereal and almost princess-like for her look – so when she found a dress online that had potential, she jumped for it. She then worked with a skilled seamstress to modify it to her exact wants, and finally, her vision was brought to life!
The thing that made their whimsical wedding so special was how personal everything felt. “It was truly tailored to us, from the music and décor to the food and drinks. Every element reflected our story, making the whole day feel ours uniquely,” Diana shared.
When you’ve got a photographer like Art of Grace, it’s hard to pick a favourite shot from a gallery filled to the brim with excellence. “Honestly, there are too many to choose from – our photographer was incredible, and the pictures are absolutely perfect. Each image feels alive and full of emotion, capturing raw, beautiful moments that take us right back to the day every time we look at them.”
Speaking of photographers, Diana had a glowing endorsement for Sissi from Art of Grace! “Sissi was absolutely everything – we couldn’t have asked for a better photographer. From the moment we met her, she went above and beyond, making us feel comfortable and at ease. We asked for photos that captured real moments rather than stiff poses, and she delivered in the most beautiful way. Her eye for detail and timing meant every shot was full of raw emotion and genuine feeling. Sissi was a true professional and a huge highlight of our wedding; the images she created are timeless memories we’ll treasure forever,” Diana explained.
“Our photographer and our videographer, Kara from The Runaway Hearts, were absolute standouts. Sissi captured every raw, emotional moment with stunning artistry, while Kara filmed the day on beautiful 8 mm film, giving our wedding video a timeless, nostalgic feel. Together, they perfectly preserved the spirit of our celebration.”
The Wool Mill in Brunswick was their venue of choice for this whimsical wedding, and wow! What a perfect choice it was. “We wanted a space that could host both the ceremony and the reception. I loved its blank-canvas feel – an industrial warehouse with elegant touches – perfect for transforming into the ethereal, floral setting we envisioned.”
As a botanical watercolour and paper artist (find her business here!), Diana was in her creative domain when it came to decorating their whimsical wedding. “She crafted giant paper flowers for the ceremony backdrop and delicate paper blooms in bud vases for the tables, which guests could take home as keepsakes. These handmade pieces were beautifully complemented by lush, real arrangements from Anatomy of Flowers, which perfectly blended artful paper details with natural elegance,” they explained.
Diana walked down the aisle with her dad, who had flown in from Colombia for the occasion! “Having my parents there and watching them meet so many of Troy’s family for the first time made it incredibly special and unforgettable.”
The ceremony, led by the talented Sophia from Love Is Magic, was warm and personal, perfect for Diana and Troy. And with the help of their celebrant, Sophia, they created the perfect ceremony to honour both Troy’s Australian and Diana’s Colombian heritages. “We exchanged our own vows, which made the moment intimate and heartfelt, and the entire atmosphere felt joyful, romantic, and beautifully personal.”
The top five things that made this whimsical wedding so personal to Troy and Diana included:
“1. Diana hand-painted all the stationery and created giant paper flowers and delicate table blooms, making every detail uniquely ours.
2. With Troy, Australian, and Diana, Colombian, we celebrated with a joyful mix of traditions, from 90s boy-band hits to lively salsa.
3. Having our families and closest friends there, many travelling from Colombia and around Australia, made the day truly unforgettable.
4. Our incredible photographer, Sissi, and videographer, Kara, captured raw, emotional moments – Kara even filmed on vintage 8 mm film.
5. From the emotional aisle, walk with Diana’s dad to a speech honouring all our guests, every moment was filled with love and gratitude.”
A moment that stood out to Diana and Troy was their heartfelt speech at the reception. “Giving a heartfelt speech to our guests – it wasn’t just about us as a couple, but to acknowledge each person there and how meaningful they are in our lives. Taking that moment to honour the people who have supported and loved us made the celebration feel even more personal and memorable,” they explained.
“We celebrated with a Colombian touch, starting our toast with a shot of aguardiente, a traditional Colombian drink. Later in the night, we brought the energy up with a lively hora loca – an hour of nonstop, high-energy dancing that had everyone on the floor and perfectly honoured my Colombian heritage.”
Their first dance was to Taylor Swift’s “Lover”, a song they listened to constantly during the COVID lockdowns, just as their relationship was starting to form. “It felt so meaningful and nostalgic, making the moment extra special.”
The advice Diana wants to leave for couples on their own planning journeys is this: “Make your wedding truly yours. Trends come and go, but what matters is that the day reflects what you love and who you are as a couple. At the end of the day, your wedding is about sharing a piece of your story with your guests – so stay true to yourselves and create something that feels authentically you.”
Congratulations to Diana and Troy on all your hard work! Thanks to Art of Grace for capturing everything.
