Highlighting a blend of Scottish traditions and Bohemian style, Jorjha and Brad invested in quiet moments, where they honoured heirlooms and had just a dash of DIY magic. Situated at the stunning Kooroomba Lavender Farm and Vineyard in the Scenic Rim of Queensland, their wedding was a day full of love and laughter. Captured by the talented Nat from Melrose Photography – we’re excited to share this beautiful day with you!
Jorjha had gotten a message from her friend Saffron asking if she could invite two of her friends without NYE plans to Jorjha’s end-of-year party – a question she had no idea would lead her to her soulmate! “A few months earlier, Jorjha had spied Bradley on a mutual friend’s Instagram story (Saffron) and asked if he was single. He was, unfortunately, in a new relationship. At the NYE party, Jorjha and Bradley met, and it was very cordial, until Saffron urgently texted Jorjha during the party that Bradley was in fact single again and to make her move!! Saffron sprinkled some ideas in Bradley’s mind as well, and when they reconnected during the party, they ended up speaking until the early hours of the morning,” they explained. “On New Year’s Day, after the party ended, Bradley added Jorjha as a friend on Facebook and asked her out to coffee that following Saturday! Very prompt!”
After four years together and buying an apartment, Jorjha and Bradley had planned a New Zealand holiday, roadtripping across the South Island. “Bradley had been to New Zealand many times over his years, but it was my first time! On the third day of the trip, Bradley took me to Moke Lake, slightly outside of Queenstown and had a picnic prepared. It was a very intimate proposal where both kinds of knew what was about to happen,” Jorjha shared. “Bradley got down on one knee and started playing the song he wrote for me (instrumental piano song) and professed his love (lol), but it was a very sweet moment. Amidst tears and laughing at what was happening in their lives, a duck slowly started approaching us to steal our picnic, and we named him Jackson. When telling our friends and family afterwards, we played a prank and said that Bradley proposed with the ring around the duck’s neck, and he had trained it for months.”
Jorjha visited many wedding dress boutiques to try to find the one for her with little success. And while she wasn’t having any luck, she was learning new things at every store! “I learnt that as much as I wanted a bohemian dress (Grace Loves Lace), I felt the lace + a wildflower bouquet were going to be too far into the cliche style and too busy. I want to channel more sophisticated bohemian – with nods rather than overtly bohemian. West End Brides, I learnt I preferred a ballgown look. Bloom, I tried on this incredible Varca Studio dress that was Japanese tissue paper silk taffeta that I fell in love with. I ended up going to a custom wedding dress maker, Susan Ogg. I came to her with my visions from all the places I had tried and ended up with a one-of-a-kind silk taffeta ballgown, basque waist and draped bodice with pockets and the perfect underskirt bustle to have the best time dancing later in the evening.”
She finished off her custom look with a few accessories, but the most beautiful piece was her something borrowed – her veil! “Earlier in the year, we had travelled to Scotland for one of my longest friends’ (Grace) weddings. Our mothers (Eilidh and Claire) are best friends and her and her twin sister have been my longest friends despite us having moved to Australia when I was ten years old. After her wedding, she gifted me her veil to wear, and after my wedding, I gifted it back to her sister. It was such a beautiful nod to our relationship as closer to being sisters than just friends.”
Other accessories included her mother’s pearl choker, which she wore on her own wedding day, complete with a beautiful central oval cameo framed in gold. Flats from Steve Madden with tiny rhinestones sparkled as she walked, along with her earrings from Mestige.
Bradley went to InStitchu when it was time to design his outfit – and thank god he did because this suit is a masterclass in impeccable design! “Our dress code for men was ‘Suits Preferred, Ties Optional, All colour-ways’ – so we wanted Bradley to have a bit of fun with his look but keep it timeless. We ended up going with an Australian Merino Wool suit in a brown tweed style with a grey undertone, which complemented Bradley’s red-toned hair and complexion. He paired this with some chestnut brown accessories – the perfect excuse to splurge and get some RM Williams Boots- when we went to buy these, our first dance song came on once he had decided on which pair he wanted – good signs!”
They decided to have a first-look pre-ceremony, and Jorjha was really thankful for it on the day. “Bradley is my comfort zone, so amidst all the chaos of getting ready, it was really nice to have a moment of calm with him before it all.”
Their venue of choice for this romantic spring Scottish wedding was Kooroomba Lavender Farm in Queensland. And since it was spring, the lavender was in full bloom! How breathtaking. “I first saw the chapel probably about 10 years ago… I had seen it online somewhere, and I immediately fell in love with it. When we got engaged, we toyed with the idea of checking out a few other venues as well, but I knew that it was perfect for us and had always dreamed of getting married there. Both Bradley and I have always loved hinterland experiences over beaches. I also grew up camping nearby at Mt Barney with my family, so this venue had an incredible backdrop of the mountain as well as the Great Dividing Range.”
This gorgeous wedding is chock full of details we’re obsessed with, and Jorjha’s favourite has to be sharing her mother’s experience of wearing the pearl choker on their wedding day. “It makes me the happiest looking at all the photos, and when I look at the photos from their wedding day, and see my mum’s smile wearing it and then compare it to me wearing it,” she explained. “I think it also really brought my sophisticated bohemian theme to life. My dress was beautiful, structured, and the draping was great, but without this key accessory with the beautiful red cameo, it would be incomplete.”
A Bagpiper led guests down to the chapel in preparation for the ceremony. “This was particularly special as I grew up in Scotland and a lot of our guests were Scottish. It felt like the perfect nod, and I loved seeing him in the kilt as I walked down the aisle myself,” Jorjha explained.
If there was one vendor that Jorjha was obssessed with, it would be their florist, Tanya from Demavi! “My gosh, when my flower arrived, I truly was floored. When I say Tanya is the most competent person I have ever dealt with, that is no exaggeration. I linked her to my Pinterest board for my wedding, and in that one interaction, she produced the most amazing style guide for the whole wedding. Our mood board was wild, organic and modern – this was prior to me telling her our theme was Sophisticated Bohemian, but I think she realised that with the Pinterest board!” Jorjha shared.
“Our colour palette was neutrals, blushes and greens. The focus was on lots of grasses, both fresh and dried, wheat, statice, steel grass, delphiniums, anthuriums, a hint of roses and carnations, a mix of foliage and fresh moss, and other complementary in-season flowers. My mum had also handmade all of our 12 centrepiece vases, in which Tanya made her beautiful creations. Her inspiration was termite mounds, but surprisingly, they looked really cool haha!”
As Jorjha and her parents walked down the pathway to the chapel, the song Bradley had written for her began to play. Once they’d reached the actual chapel aisle, the doors opened as “Home” by Edward Sharpe started to play.
Working with their celebrant, Ryan Black, to personalise every element of the ceremony, Jorjha and Bradley couldn’t have been happier with the level of joy and energy it exuded. “I have to say, Ryan, our Celebrant and MC, was a crowd favourite, and we got to know Ryan deeply in the months leading up to the wedding. He was incredibly considerate and struck the perfect balance of personalising our day, injecting fun whilst also keeping things professional and classy. We are so lucky! As I arrived, he encouraged everyone to celebrate me and cheer, which was so much fun. We also held a ring-warming ceremony. We had handcrafted our own rings through Blonde. Studio.”
Their favourite shot of the whole romance-filled day was this quiet moment shared after the ceremony, enjoying a basket of canapés put together by the venue staff. “My favourite photo is our legs off the back of the chapel, after we got married! I love the way you can see my underskirt, and we are just very relaxed.”
The top five things that made this spring Scottish wedding so unique and heartwarming for Bradley and Jorjha were:
“1. Small, intimate group of people – 64- everyone there was meaningful, and we were able to splurge in the areas we wanted and still connect with everyone.
2. Our heirloom and special pieces – my mum’s necklace, the gifted spoons, bagpiper, and ring warming.
3. Our custom dress and suit – we both felt very much ourselves.
4. Our special people had moments throughout our day – where they were acknowledged (crossword, speeches, witnesses, where they were seated).
5. The venue – I could not be more happy and blessed with the venue we chose and had access to.”
Nat from Melrose Photography was the wonderful photographer who captured this beautiful day. “She is actually a family friend of Bradley’s and was the photographer of Saffron’s wedding as well! It was incredibly special to have her there with us on the day and to know that she knew who we were,” Jorjha explained.
“We absolutely loved the direction she took with Saffron’s wedding, so we just knew very early into planning that we wanted her for our wedding.”
Their two-year engagement gave Jorjha and Bradley enough time to think through the details most important to them and plan intentionally. “I think my favourite part and something that really surprised me, was how much my decisions at the beginning of planning stayed true right through to the end. I was very worried that I wouldn’t want the same things (style, theming-wise) or that I would follow a trend that was no longer cool.”
One of Jorjha’s favourite memories from the day was the golden-hour portrait session, which was winding down, and she and Bradley were looking back at their party, deciding who to gravitate to first. “We could see some of our friends sitting in the chapel having some drinks off the back of the end. We could see others relaxing on the terrace underneath the fairy lights. Then we could also see and hear the joy and laughter as our friends got photos with each other up at the swing overlooking the venue. This was incredibly special as we loved watching everyone having fun at our wedding, and it was so lovely to see the scale of the venue and how everyone was just exploring and making the most of it all.”
These beautiful centrepiece vases at every table were lovingly made by Jorjha’s mum. Jorjha herself designed all the stationery, including the programs with the custom crossword and the personalised thank-you messages on each placecard.
Her friend’s mum also gifted Jorjha and Bradley silver teaspoons with native Australian flowers across the handles. “We used these spoons on our wedding day to feed each other our wedding (tiramisu) cake made by Icing Hill, and Eilidh (Grace’s Mum) was seated right opposite us and was so lovely to show us, including this special gift, on our day. We will treasure these for the rest of our lives!”
To round out the night, Bradley and Jorjha had Jason from The Baker Boy Band perform an acoustic rendition of Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” as their first dance song. “It was performed out on the terrace underneath the fairy lights. Our guests also had sparklers to swing while we were dancing. We asked Ryan, our MC and Celebrant, to tap in our parents after a minute of our dance, then another minute after we encouraged all couples to join us, which was a really lovely moment.”
A huge congratulations are in order for Jorjha and Brad, so please join us in sharing it! Thanks again to Melrose Photography for capturing these incredible moments.
