When art meets sparkle, you get a wedding like Will and David’s. Captured beautifully by Caitlin of Mimo Weddings, their celebration at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art was a love letter to creativity, joy, and sparkles. From a double proposal in Hawaii to a disco-glam wedding complete with storms, sequins, and a 10-metre aisle, this was a day that shone as brightly as the grooms themselves.

Walking along the street one day, Will and David caught each other’s eye and smiled (” There may have been a wink…”). With the help of social media and David’s expert investigative abilities, he slipped a hello into Will’s DMs and thus, their story began.

It was a battle of wills when it came to proposing, as both Will and David had a ring up their sleeve and a ticking clock in their heads. “Will was heading to Hawaii for a work trip and planned on proposing to David. Without knowing, David had the same plan. For the entire week, we both carried the rings with us, waiting for the right moment. On the last day, Will had planned on proposing to David at dinner, but first, we had a day in Jurassic Park. Will was in his element, but in the background, David was planning to propose on the tour. In a lush green valley and the group on the tour, who David thought wouldn’t be able to see, David gets on his knee and Will walks straight past him. Will was in complete shock once he turned back and realised what had happened. The tour group cheered with joy as Will said yes. To finish the day at dinner, Will had organised with the restaurant and out came the ring on a dessert dish. It was the perfect ending to the trip.”

Both Will and David opted for formal black tie suits, but with their own glam twist: they picked out a fabric with a beautiful sparkle from Belance.

Although not the most welcome thing, one of the most memorable parts of their disco glam wedding was the cyclone-level weather beating down on Sydney. “While we wouldn’t say special, it was special, but it did bring everyone together to create the perfect atmosphere.”

For David and Will, the most important part of their photography was candid shots that captured not only them, but also their guests’ joy throughout the day. “Caitlin from Mimo Weddings went above and beyond to show how much joy and love there was in the room.”

The wedding party was made up of their closest friends, who all wore moody black with their own dazzling twist – including their Whippet Henri in this gorgeous sparkling vest.

Flowers were kept elegant yet subtle. The women in their wedding party held white orchids with three bows that draped over their hands, while the men carried a single long-stemmed anthurium with a metallic navy fringe.

When the hunt for their perfect venue began, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney was their top contender. “It ticked all our requirements, including being pet-friendly. It just so happens that it boasts an iconic view showcasing the beautiful harbour of Sydney.”

As an artist, it was clear that David would create something special for the wedding. And what better project to take on than designing and creating the beautiful 10-meter-long artwork that worked as the aisle and backdrop! A Ballard version of “Love At First Sight” by Kylie Minogue played, and Will began his walk down the aisle with his sister Nikki and their whippet. David followed soon after with his mum, Angela, on his arm.

With Jo Booth as their celebrant, Will and David’s dream ceremony soon came to life. “We wanted a ceremony that exuded all the joyous emotions that come with the day and a few laughs at Will’s expense. Jo Booth, our celebrant, was the woman to do this. Jo has had a relationship with Will spanning 20 years, and it felt like a friend overseeing the celebration”

When you have so many gorgeous shots captured by Caitlin, it isn’t easy to pick a favourite. However, the photos of the two of them laughing at the altar are definitely some of their top picks. “These encapsulate how we are when we’re together.”

The top five things that made this disco glam wedding so unique to David and Will include:

“1. Our cake and seeing our bobble heads on top.

2. Friends of ours who had only met at the wedding, dragging each other to the dance floor

3. Seeing those in our lives coming together in one room, creating an epic day

4. Hearing one another’s vows.

5. Having our dog there.”

While Will’s other lifelong love regrettably couldn’t attend the wedding, her presence was felt with a life-size cutout! Kylie Minogue’s presence was felt from the walk down the aisle to the final dance on the dance floor.

David may be the artist, but Will is the ballroom dancer, and left his artistic mark on their wedding in the form of a choreographed first dance. “Love On Top” by Beyoncé was their pick, as they boogied together for the first time as a married pair. “Our favourite detail of the day was seeing our family and chosen family being together and letting it all out on the dance floor.”

Thanks to Mimo Weddings for sharing these glam moments with us! And a huge congratulations to David and Will for pulling off this creative disco wedding.
