Beneath a canopy of marigolds, surrounded by laughter and music, Shalu and Jason celebrated a love story that began with friendship and grew into forever. Their day at Moana Hall was filled with tradition and heart, a kaleidoscope of emotion beautifully captured by Shosh Kruger Photography, whose lens caught every heartfelt moment. There’s no better day than today to dive into this beautiful celebration of Indian culture, so let’s get started!
It all started when Jason’s best friend played matchmaker – and the rest, as they say, is history. For their wedding, Shalu and Jason wanted something that felt just like them: relaxed, a little playful, and infused with the warmth and vibrancy of Indian culture.
Shalu wanted to wear something traditional, yet still playful. And she found her perfect look with this beautiful bespoke red lehenga from Modern Day Rani for the ceremony. Finishing her look off with the incredible Henna by Minakshi.
For his own ceremony attire, Jason wore a traditional white sherwani from Pernia’s Pop Up Shop.
Moana Hall in Perth was the perfect location for this colourful urban wedding, offering an all-in-one location for both the reception and ceremony, surrounded by the beautiful architecture.
As Tera Chehra by Arijit Singh floated through their ceremony room, Shalu began her walk down the aisle with her family by her side.
The ceremony was a traditional Hindu ceremony, led by their Hindu priest, Pandit Sri Subrahmanya Bhat. “I also worked with Harmony Events on the Mandap, which was composed of four wooden posts and a canopy of marigold garlands. Harmony Events provided the traditional wedding chairs, which we both sat on for the ceremony,” Shalu explained.
When it came to finding their photographer, Shalu and Jason fell in love with Shosh Kruger from the moment they saw her sense of colour and playfulness. “We thought she would be a perfect match for the way we wanted our wedding to feel and come across. Shosh did such an amazing job on the day, making us all feel super comfortable, helping me keep calm during the stressful moments getting ready and bringing out the laughs and smiles for some really fun and sentimental photos.”
A piece of advice Shalu and Jason want to leave for future couples planning their own dream weddings is this: “Give yourself plenty of time to plan and be ok with things not going perfectly, as is inevitable. If you are doing several things yourself, be open to asking people for help when you need it – you can’t do it all on your own!”
For the second half of the day, Shalu changed into her blush pink Angah Singh lehenga, with jewellery from Pernia’s Pop Up Shop. Jason also switched into his reception attire, opting for a green block print sherwani from Aashnia and Co.
All of the print material, from the menus to the welcome signs and place cards, was designed by Shalu herself. She also sourced the tea lights, votives and vases that were then filled with colourful flowers picked out and styled by her sisters-in-law!
Working with Heyder & Shears, Shalu and Jason put together an incredible spread of fresh Indian cuisine for the guests to enjoy.
After speeches, their drummers from Sahara Drummers played Indian bhangra songs to entice everyone onto the dance floor! “One of our favourite moments was when every single guest jumped on the dance floor with us once the drummers started playing after the speeches, you could feel the joy, and it was so much fun.”
Congratulations to Shalu and Jason on this beautiful, urban wedding! And thanks to Shosh Kruger Photography, for not only capturing each moment, but also for sharing it with us.
