Magical Fairytale Wedding at Bamboo Park

Once upon a time in a rock climbing gym, James and Angel began a storybook romance. What started with shared cups of tea and a love for bouldering led to a magical proposal on a mountaintop and a wedding that seemed plucked straight from the pages of an epic fantasy novel! With swords, crowns, and a pavilion full of dancing guests (mud-splattered and joyful!), their day was nothing short of legendary. With every magical moment captured beautifully by Izzy from The Beloved Collective, their day will be treasured forever.

James and Angel met at a rock climbing gym, where their relationship slowly developed from a strong friendship into something much more. “We have a shared passion for climbing and a good cup of tea, and now run a bouldering gym together on the Sunshine Coast.”

While on a magical trip to the countryside of New Zealand, James proposed on top of a rock at Castle Hill, presenting a handcrafted ring straight out of a fairytale!

Angel wore this stunning, fairytale princess gown with vibrant, embroidered flowers, paired with a floral band and a glittering crown fit for the queen she is.

Her wedding party was made up of her ladies-in-waiting, wearing matching jewel-toned gowns with vibrant bouquets that were a mini version of Angel’s.

Bamboo Park was the perfect venue for this magical fairytale wedding, with its rolling green field and giant stalks of bamboo. They set up bales of hay for guests to sit on during the ceremony, lined with swords and backdropped by the beautiful lake.

James was the spitting image of Angel’s handsome prince charming, with his rugged white shirt and royal blue half cloak. Finishing off his look, he had a sword by his side and a crown fit for a king nestled in his hair. He stood waiting at the altar with his noble squires by his side.

Angel walked down the aisle with her dad as “Cliffside Playtime” from How to Train Your Dragon floated through the air, carrying her closer to her Prince Charming.

One of their good friends stood at the altar with James and Angel as their celebrant, leading their guests through a short and sweet ceremony.

Their advice for future couples planning their own magical weddings is this: “Plan together and enjoy every moment. Just go with the flow, don’t worry about the rain because you’ll have the best time of your life no matter what happens.”

Part of the magic of this fairytale wedding was the commitment of their guests to the medieval theme! “Our guests leaned heavily into the theme and arrived in a myriad of amazing and creative costumes. The mud from the fields left us all caked from head to toe, but we just laughed.”

With Izzy from The Beloved Collective capturing so many magical photos, it wasn’t easy for James and Angel to pick their favourite shot. However, they have a soft spot for this portrait, featuring their beloved puppies, which is framed and displayed in their home.

They didn’t include any traditions or heirlooms in their fairytale wedding, but James and Angel’s friends did bring a giant inflatable dragon to really set that magical tone!

Food was cooked over an open fire all day long, providing a delicious feast that their guests still rave about today.

For entertainment throughout the day, James and Angel set up plenty of tournament games like jousting, shield wrestling and a scavenger hunt that began the moment guests received their wedding invitation scrolls!

While James and Angel were planning this magical event, they unfortunately lost all of their belongings in a house fire. After receiving an outpouring of love and support from their community, they decided to shift their intimate celebrations into one that welcomed their entire support network.

Their photographer, Izzy, captured the magic of their fairytale wedding perfectly, striking an incredible balance between candid shots and genuine connections. “Izzy was wonderful in every way. She somehow managed to be everywhere at once and captured the feeling and the magic of the day.”

Their first dance was to another How To Train Your Dragon melody, this time it was an instrumental version of “For The Dancing and The Dreaming”. “The song starts slow but builds to a rapid and breathtaking pace. The dance was a boisterous jig filled with twirls, lifts and dips. It took place under the festoon lights of the pavilion.”

Even with so many magical moments and memories, these five elements really stood out to Angel and James: “Everything felt special to us. Our first dance, the music throughout the day, the venue, everyone’s costumes and everyone dancing despite the mud!”
