What better way to celebrate our Pink Issue than by taking a look at Stacey and Alex’s joy-filled wedding! Set against Brisbane’s urban charm, Stacey and Alex’s wedding was an ode to joy. With pink taking centre stage and heartfelt personal touches woven throughout the day, their celebration was every bit as thoughtful as it was fun! Every moment reflected who they are – relaxed, deeply in love, and endlessly filled with joy. The whimsical garden-inspired florals, warm glow of fairy lights, and subtle vintage textures set the scene for a day that honoured their love story with beauty and ease. Captured by the ever-talented Aimee Catt, it’s a celebration neither Stacey nor Alex will ever forget.

On the night Alex and Stacey met, fate was hard at work to ensure they both ended up at the same bar in Brisbane. “We met through friends of friends, and when I look back, it really feels like fate because there was a chance neither of us was going to go out that night. We just clicked. We had our first date a week later and have been together ever since.”

Alex set the bar sky high when he proposed to Stacey with Mt Fuji as their backdrop. “We were staying at a stunning traditional-style hotel with an onsen overlooking the mountain across the lake. We were getting ready to go out for dinner when he called my name from another room. When I walked in, he was on one knee. It was perfect.”

Stacey looked stunning in her Madi Lane dress from Luv Bridal, with its subtle mocha tones and sparkling bodice details. “I also wore an A’el Este headpiece that I first spotted when I was walking into the dress appointment. I didn’t really have the bridal moment where you ‘just know’ as soon as you put on the dress – I’m an over-thinker! But as soon as I put the headpiece on with the dress, it felt complete. I felt like a beautiful fairy princess and decided to give it a try. The headband was so pretty and detailed,” she shared.

“My experience at Luv Bridal was excellent. They were very knowledgeable and helpful, and I knew my gown was in great hands. On the day, I wore sparkly Holster sneakers because I’m not a high-heeled girly and wanted to feel comfortable! And my signature pink glasses! You don’t see a lot of brides wearing glasses, and some people were surprised to hear that I would be wearing them instead of contact lenses, but I really wouldn’t have felt like myself without them. I’m so glad I stayed true to myself.”

In Stacey’s wedding party she had her sister as her Maid of Honour and her three closest friends as her bridesmaids. They didn’t have matching dresses. Instead, Stacey let them pick their own dress – as long as it was pink!

Mirra in Fortitude Valley was their venue of choice for the day; nestled within Brisbane’s urban landscape, it was the perfect spot for Stacey and Alex. “We loved the vibe of Mirra – from the gorgeous courtyard where we exchanged our vows to the fairy lights draping the ceiling in the reception area, the open space and comfy couches for guests to relax on, and the vintage-looking details.”

Stacey walked down the aisle to “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer, first entering the ceremony space by herself to see Alex before her parents joined her the rest of the way.

Alex wore a dark blue suit from Tony Barlow, with pink bee socks and a blush pink tie from OTAA to match the pink vibes of the day. “He liked the idea of wearing blue rather than black because black reminds him of funerals! His mum also gave him a gold tie clip from his great-grandfather on the day. That was very meaningful for him.”

He had his four best friends in his wedding party, all wearing the same attire as Alex himself. “It all came together so perfectly in the end. Alex’s sister also flew from Canada to celebrate with us, which was obviously very special for us and the family.”

Lara from Love by Lara led the ceremony, expertly weaving Stacey and Alex’s love story together. “We wanted it to feel warm, relaxed and personal. We didn’t want it to feel too formal or stiff. We didn’t have any readings, but we knew we wanted to exchange personal vows and have a celebrant who could tell our story well. It was such a happy and emotionally charged ceremony. We laughed and cried, and our guests laughed and cried. It was our favourite part of the day!”

With so many beautiful details, it’s no wonder we’re obsessed with this wedding! For Alex and Stacey, the five things that made them obsess over their own wedding were:

“1. Sharing the day with each other

2. Sharing personal vows and having a personalised ceremony

3. Having our beautiful dog join us

4. Having all our friends and family there to celebrate with us

5. It all taking place in the Brisbane/Fortitude Valley area – beautiful, meaningful to us and accessible for all our guests.”

Stacey’s favourite part of planning the wedding came after everything was done when she was able to step back and see everything fall into place. “The planning can be pretty full on and time consuming, so it was a relief when the day arrived, and we could just relax and enjoy all the effort we put in. Seeing all the little elements all come together in the end was rewarding.”

The special guest of the day was actually their fur child, Tater! “Tater was super excited to see us, but was even more excited when he saw the small waves lapping at the shore at Kangaroo Point. He loves the beach and water and is very strong. He nearly pulled Alex off the rocks and into the water in his attempts to get near the waves! It was classic Tater!”

“Even though she’s not a detail, my wife was my favourite,” Alex says. And with how incredible Stacey looked – we can’t help but agree! “Just sharing in the day with Alex was the absolute best part. We also organised for our dog Tater to join us for photos, which was such a happy part of the day for us, too,” shared Stacey.

Kate Dawes and her team from KD Flower Design listened to Stacey’s whimsical floral dreams and knew exactly how to bring her garden-picked fantasy to life. Alongside her bouquet, the bridesmaid bouquets and groomsmen’s buttonholes, the team also created a posy bouquet for the flower girl, corsages for close family members, little bud vases for the reception, an incredible arbour piece, and flowers for the cake – the whole shebang! “When I first saw my bouquet and the bridesmaid’s bouquets, I could’ve cried with happiness. They were everything I wanted and more! The flowers were pink, peach, ivory, mauve and orange. I loved that the bud vases were simple but super pretty. Some of our guests have commented on how the reception flowers didn’t feel overboard and helped make the vibe more relaxed.”

With so many incredible moments captured by Aimee, it wasn’t easy for Stacey to pick her favourites. But when it really came down to the decision, the photos of the wedding paper and Tater at Kangaroo Point stuck with her the most. “Having this time together with our dog and friends after the whirlwind of getting married was so much fun.”

Aimee Catt was the perfect photographer for Stacey and Alex’s joy-filled wedding, with her cool vibe and relaxed approach to her craft. “We can feel pretty awkward in front of the camera, but Aimee made us feel so comfortable from the moment we met her for our engagement session. On the day, she gave us the space to just enjoy ourselves rather than it feeling like a photoshoot. We are so happy with all the candid photos as well as our beautiful, natural portraits. She is really easy to communicate with, too, which made the whole process smooth and easy,” Stacey shared.

Their reception space was bursting with beautiful pink details, like all of the signage crafted by Nick from Artica Printed Goods and Signage. The pink and orange tones perfectly contrasted with the clean white of the linens. “We had a welcome sign, an order of events sign, menus and place cards. We also had a guest book and Polaroid cameras so that our guests could take their own photos and stick them in the book throughout the night.”

One element of their wedding that was extra important for Stacey and Alex was ensuring that their guests were well-fed with delicious food! “Our guests enjoyed a yummy grazing table as well as canapes, thanks to the Mirra team and caterers. We also loved our decadent 3-tier cake from Frosted Indulgence. We had three flavours for guests to enjoy – caramel, honey and pistachio with salted caramel ganache; chocolate with crunchy Biscoff ganache; and white chocolate raspberry with white chocolate ganache.”

Their first dance was to “Wake Me” by The Bleachers, a song they hold near and dear. “It’s a sentimental song from when we first started dating. We practised dancing a little bit in our lounge room before the day but kept it pretty casual and just tried to enjoy the moment naturally without too much pressure.”

Alex and Stacey could not have been happier with their vendor dream team, so much so that they wanted to give an extra shoutout to the following vendors:

“All of our vendors were fantastic!! But our standouts were…

1. Nick and Nicole from Artica Printed Goods and Signage. They went above and beyond for us. It’s clear that they really value their customers. The quality of their work is incredible.

2. Kate Dawes and her team. They were just incredible to work with. They were always punctual and helpful in all of their correspondence. I was so happy with our flowers on the day.

3. Our celebrant Lara. We can’t thank her enough for the care she took in creating such a personal, perfect ceremony for us.

4. Vas from Frosted Indulgence. Our cake was classic and elegant and most importantly, super delicious.

5. And lastly, the team at Mirra was wonderful too! The food was amazing, the drinks were flowing, the service was great and their communication was on point.”

Congratulations, Stacey and Alex, on this beautiful pink-filled wedding! And thanks to Aimee Catt for sharing these joy-filled moments with us.
