On a sun-drenched summer’s day at Parrys Estate in Western Australia, Paris and Nick tied the knot in a celebration full of colour! From private personal vows to a ceremony led by their dear friend, every detail reflected their journey and passion. Captured beautifully by Ben & Ebony, this was a day built around the people who matter most.
Paris had given up on dating apps, happy to live out her days with her sausage dog (and a few cats for maximum stereotyping). So when a Bumble match with Nick quietly expired, she didn’t think much of it. But Nick had other plans… intrigued by her profile, he found her on Facebook and sent a bold (but thankfully funny) message that ended with him saying, “I promise I’m not an axe-wielding psychopath.” It made Paris laugh and (luckily) reconsider.
Their first date followed soon after and what was meant to be a quick coffee turned into hours of conversation, with the cafe actually closing around them. One expired match, one Facebook message, and just like that – something real began!
With a stunning celestial-inspired ring from Michellia hidden in his carry-on (and guarded like treasure through every airport), Nick had been carefully planning the perfect proposal for months. Their big Europe trip was the perfect cover – Paris, who was excited for her first overseas adventure post-COVID, had no idea what was coming.
Lake Como was the perfect spot, especially since Paris had already booked a private boat tour and was blissfully unaware that Nick had secretly messaged the skipper the day before to help set the scene. As they approached the romantic Civera Bridge in the town of Nesso, the skipper offered to take a photo. While Paris posed, Nick fumbled in the GoPro bag, supposedly for sunscreen, then dropped to one knee on the gently rocking boat.
“I thought I would be more nervous, but I didn’t feel any nerves at all, which is what made it feel all the more perfect. It is the only time in our lives together so far that I have caught Paris completely off guard – for anyone that knows her she is as cool as a cucumber in even the most stressful situations. But in that moment – she was in absolute shock and awe. She said yes!!!!” Nick shared.
Nick chose neutral earthy tones to complement their venue and colour scheme. He wore a forest green jacket, a crisp white shirt, and tan accessories, all from Politix.
His wedding party consisted of his Best Man and his four groomsmen, all wearing the same attire, except for the bow ties.
Paris had a colourful, summery collection of bridesmaids, like her Maid of Honour, in a pale pink, silky dress. Her other four bridesmaids wore a pink, silky dress, a peach dress, a rust-coloured silk dress, and an orange dress.
For her own attire, Paris knew she wanted something fun yet classic. She eventually found her sparkling dream Maddi Lane gown from Luv Bridal. “I tried lots of beaded-style dresses, but nothing tight, as I wanted to be able to eat all the delicious food! The outer layer featured a kind of crinkle, sheer, sparkly tulle. As my older sister described, it gave Florence and the Machine vibes! It was a good combo of classic and boho. The beautiful ladies at Ilka Studio in Perth altered it to fit me perfectly. They also handmade me a beautiful pearl-studded veil,” Paris explained.
The main goal for this summer wedding was for Nick and Paris to be able to spend as much time as possible with all of their guests. To achieve this, they did all the wedding party photos before the ceremony, along with a private vow reading. “Other than that we were able to enjoy the whole cocktail hour mingling and enjoying the hard work we had put into the day,” they shared.
Bec from Edie & Ivy Flowers handcrafted all of these colourful floral pieces you’ll spot throughout the feature! “We wanted the flowers to really represent our day, being super colourful and fun! She was amazing from the get-go! I told her I wanted all the colours haha and she sure delivered! I asked her to put her own creative flair as I loved her style. They were absolutely amazing and were definitely a focal point of the day.”
Their home base for the day was the beautiful Parrys Estate in Parryville, Western Australia. “We had our ceremony and reception all on site. The venue is beautiful, modern and sleek, but still maintains country charm. It overlooks farmland and also has a beautiful view of Parry Beach from the accommodation. We had our ceremony in a cute little chapel that they call “The Shelter” and our reception was in their function/dining area called “Stellas”. They were separate buildings but close to each other.”
Paris’s brother-in-law and nephew wore their kilts to honour their Scottish heritage. “My nephew was our ring bearer and just looked the cutest in his little kilt. We also had five of our nieces and nephews walk down the aisle, which was lots of fun! There were tears and one refused, but we got all five of them down there, with one niece looking especially terrified haha. They were all adorable and I was so glad to have them as part of our day… especially as we live quite far away from most of them.”
After their nieces and nephews walked down the aisle to an acoustic rendition of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, Paris and her dad, Rob, walked to “Coming Home” by Leon Bridges.
They didn’t want the ceremony to be too stiff or formal, so Paris and Nick invited their good friend Linley to officiate! “She absolutely nailed the vibe! We also did ninja vows for each other, which are fun and hilarious,” Paris explained.
“People were in tears one minute and laughing hysterically the next – including her! It was the best ceremony ever! She tailored it to us perfectly. It was so special having a friend tell our love story – someone who knows us so well and truly wants nothing but the best for us. Lots of our guests said it was the best ceremony they have been to, as it was so real!”
With the help of their wedding planner, Natalie Gasmier, their colourful summer wedding came to life! Paris recalls that choosing all the colours was one of her favourite parts of the planning process. “That was super cool watching it all come together. We also designed our wedding bands together, which was pretty special. Overall, it was a pretty good experience.”
The five things that made this colourful summer wedding so unique to Nick and Paris were:
“1. Just getting married, it’s so special to find someone that you want to make that commitment with.
2. Having family travel from all over Australia, New Zealand and the UK to be there. This is the main reason we had a wedding.
3. All the vendors put 100% effort into it, and we really felt their excitement and passion for our day. It didn’t feel like just another job, they were all amazing and made the day bloody perfect! We feel extremely lucky with the whole team.
4. Having our good friend Linley be our celebrant was just so special.
5. Our amazing bridal party, some of them had lots going on at the time, but all made so much effort and supported us through the day, we feel so lucky to have people like that in our lives.”
For their wedding favours, Nick and Paris created nostalgic goodie bags they called “Millennial lolly bags”. “We decided our wedding favours would be lolly bags with a twist! We filled them with lollies that we ate growing up as kids.”
Another element they put a strong emphasis on was serving delicious food and drinks! They had Pepper & Salt catering all the food, The Freo Doctor with cocktail kegs and Summers Sweet Treats creating the incredible dessert table with cupcakes. “The chef put a slight Sri Lankan touch to the food (Nick’s family being from Sri Lanka).”
Nick and Paris left their reception for a quick 20-minute sunset with their photographers – Ben & Ebony! “Absolute legends!! We wanted the most natural pictures possible; we had a few staged shots, but 99% of them were candid. That was our one request, nothing too formal, and they did such a beautiful job. Our wedding party all commented and said how at ease they both made everyone feel. By the end of the night, it was like having two friends taking photos of us.”
Their first dance was the Jack River cover of “Truly, Madly, Deeply” by Savage Garden. “Corny but cute! It was super informal – we didn’t have a dance planned, so we just went with the flow.”
Congratulations Paris and Nick on your beautiful wedding! Thanks to Ben & Ebony for sharing these stunning moments with us.
