Wedding attire shopping should be one of the most exciting parts of planning your big day. But for those over a size 16, it can often be more heartbreaking than magical. Just as with everyday fashion, if you’re considered curvy, mid-sized, or plus-sized, you might walk into a wedding store unsure if you’ll even have options to try on, let alone have a gown made to fit you perfectly.
We first created our guide to Australian wedding dress designers catering to sizes beyond 16 back in 2022. Now, two years later, it’s time for a much-needed update.
For transparency, here’s how we compiled this guide: We reached out to our wonderful readers for their experiences and recommendations. We also contacted every Australian wedding gown designer we could find (sometimes three or four times – our emails have a habit of playing hide-and-seek in spam folders!). Is this list exhaustive? Probably not, but it represents our best efforts to contact designers and utilise our Google know-how. If you know of a designer we’ve missed, please drop us a line!
In this post, we’ve focused on designers who create demi-couture and made-to-measure gowns – those you can try on in-store and have tailored to your measurements, perhaps with modifications. We’ve included only those who can cater beyond size sixteen and we’ve asked these designers to be transparent about their sizing initiatives: What sample sizes do they have in store? Are there extra charges for sizes over 16?
Our goal is to make your dress shopping experience as joyful and stress-free as possible, regardless of your size. Because every body deserves to feel beautiful and confident on their wedding day, we know this to be true, even if it does not always feel it.
So, let’s dive into our updated list of Australian wedding gown designers with inclusive sizing.
