Weddings are the best to work on because….

We get to be a small part of the best day of people’s lives! The joy that radiates off everyone on their happiest day fills my cup. There’s nothing like handing that bouquet off to the nervous, excited, ecstatic bride and seeing that realisation sink in that THIS IS THEIR WEDDING DAY!

What is something people would be surprised to know about your job or something that challenges you about your job?

People are always surprised to find out how many flowers are imported from overseas – from Vietnam to South America to Kenya, so many of the blooms sent through in inspiration photos aren’t grown here in Australia! A challenge I love in my role as a wedding florist is educating my couples on how they can keep it local, or at the very least telling them where their flowers are coming from in our consults, so that they’re aware of their footprint.

What is it about the creative process that you most enjoy?

My favourite part of creating is collecting all the inspiration photos, deciphering the elements my couples like and putting them all together to create something fresh and different that fits exactly what they wanted, while exceeding their expectations. Picking the flowers, colours, greenery – all the elements that go together to create a wedding’s vibe. It is SO much fun (and a little terrifying) to be so wholly trusted with something so important!

What are you hilariously bad at?

I cannot curl “curl ribbon” with scissors!! My florist friends think it’s hilarious, it should be a given that a florist can curl ribbon. Luckily it’s not used in Weddings!!

When you were small what did you dream of being and where have those dreams taken you?

When I was little my favourite way to pass time was by creating – sewing, knitting drawing, painting, making daisy chains or disappearing into a good book, all while dressed in crazy colours & floral patterns. This is why Floristry was always the most natural career path for me. Getting to create art with flowers while making people happy, it’s my dream job!
