We love a crafty wedding DIY here at Polka Dot Wedding, and *especially* one that is functional AND pretty AND can be used as a gift at the end of the party! These whimsical clay flower candle holders tick all these boxes, and even better, they can be made in just the right colour for your wedding. Crack out the rolling pin and let’s get started!
What You Will Need:
- Polymer clay in your colour of choice (stick with one colour, go bright, try ombre – the option are endless!)
- Smooth cutting board, rolling pin, sharp knife
- Taper candles
- Oven, oven tray, baking paper
Step One
Break your polymer clay into evenly sized pieces (approximately 1cm x 1cm) and roll into balls. Set one ball aside. Shape the remaining balls into triangular pieces. Using the rolling pin, roll the wider end of the triangle more firmly so that the piece of clay is finer towards the edge. Using your hands, pinch the bottom of the triangle so that the piece of clay looks petal-like.
Step Two
Place the set-aside ball of clay into your board, and gently press each petal onto the base. Once you are happy with the number of petals attached and how they are looking, use one of the taper candles to firmly press an indent into the centre of the flower. Using a flat spatula, carefully scrape the clay flower off the board, and place it on a baking tray which has been covered with baking paper. Bake following the instructions on the clay packet, and let cool.
Step Three
Once you have crafted a field of flowers for your table, test the candles to ensure they will hold securely. Package the flower candle holders carefully until needed, then scatter them down the table for a gorgeous tablescape you’ve made with your own two hands!
