Choosing an engagement ring – whether it’s with or for your loved one – is such an exciting part of the entire wedding process. And maybe you’ve had your heart set on a pretty pastel hue for this very special piece of bling (who can blame you!), but which stones come in the soft pastel palette, what does that mean about the stone itself, and how do you care for said pastel gemstone? That’s why we asked the lovely Jasmine of Jasmine Fraser Fine Handmade Jewellery to give us some fabulous insight into “Picking A Pastel Gemstone For Your Engagement Ring.”
There are many beautiful natural gemstones that come in pastel hues. Although when considering an engagement ring it is important to think about the properties of the gemstone, like hardness. As engagement rings are worn daily, the hardness is definitely important.
Diamonds come in pale yellow and pale champagne tones, which make a great alternative to a white diamond. They look great set in a simple solitaire or complimented with white diamonds. They are also incredibly strong stones, so are ideal for everyday wear.
Sapphires come in a range of pastel colours, from yellow, peach, pink, green, and purple to blues. Sapphire is the next best option in hardness to a diamond so they are a great pastel option for engagement rings. There are so many beautiful colour options in sapphire that it can be hard to choose just one!
Aquamarines (soft blues) and Morganites (soft pink/peach) are other beautiful pastel options, although these stones do require a touch more care as they are not as hard for everyday wear. They can be worn daily but it is good to keep in mind if you are doing anything with your hands that may knock the stone remove your ring beforehand.
Pastel-coloured gemstones can look great set on their own although often setting them with diamonds will help elevate the gorgeous colour. Set in a simple claw setting will allow light to the stone as well as help when it comes to cleaning.
Like any piece of jewellery, it is important to have cleaned and checked professionally, once a year, to ensure the security of claws as they do wear down over time with daily wear. And if you do ever take them off, be sure to store them in a safe place!
Pastel colours are a great engagement ring option because not only are they beautiful but no two coloured stones are ever the same. That is what makes them unique and when presented with options usually one will stand out more than the others (I often say they speak to you!). I personally love colour so I always love helping couples find ‘The One’ and a pastel-hued engagement ring will absolutely be one to remember and adored forever.
