Friends, what better way could we think of to kick off The New Zealand Issue than by sharing the brand new collection from New Zealand designer Hera Couture led by Katie Yeung.
After watching her mum create bespoke gowns in the days of her youth, Katie was soon inspired (at just age eight) to sew and create her own. The passion continued, throughout university, a property degree, and a marketing degree; somehow, Katie would always find herself spending her spare time sewing and designing. So it seems inevitable, that Hera Couture was born.
Today? We unveil the brand’s newest collection “Avant Garde”. With 24 separate outfits, there is so much in this collection you’re going to adore. Bustier bodices, beautiful laces, puff sleeves, and flowing skirts; it is a collection that beautifully marries traditional silhouettes with modern, trending detail. The team shared “This collection is the manifestation of Katie’s artistic heritage through design, fabric and construction. We have created this range to combine concepts of tradition and freedom by acknowledging what has come before while celebrating individual expression.”
There’s the “Candence” a form-fitting bustier bodice gown with stunning Italian lace, the sleek “Fleuretta” with a mikado shawl that adds an almost art-like detail to the back of the gown. “Livia” sparkling like a disco ball, the beaded gown with beaded long sleeves. And for those who aren’t into a dress, the “Verona” suit? It’s a must-see. With wide white silk pants and a cropped blazer modern sleek and yet, suitably chic.
And then there’s the colours – lavender, pistachio and dusky blue, floral pretty prints, and soft shades. “Le Lilac” with a tiered ball skirt in the aptly lavender hue, “Le Wild Rose” available in both blue and green bringing to life all the modern Bridgerton vibes with its rose printed fabric underlay.
What is clear from each of the outfits, is Katie’s dedication to creating gowns that are comfortable and beautiful, holds true, every time.
