We love elopements and today’s one, set on a 7000-acre wildlife reserve in Wolgan Valley, is oh-so romantic. Anna and Kevin’s original plan was to marry back home in the UK surrounded by their friends and family, but due to Covid and all the unpredictability that it brings, they chose to elope by themselves, in the absolutely stunning Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. There capturing the magic moments amongst the epic scenery? The talented Society Photography team.
Before we dive into their gorgeous elopement, let’s find out how this love story began. Anna and Kevin, both from the UK, first met while backpacking in Australia in 2017. They met in Mildura, where they were both completing their regional work (a visa requirement for backpackers). Following that, they went on a huge road trip from Sydney, Melbourne, Tasmania, Adelaide, Perth and back to Sydney. “The road trip solidified things,” says Kevin. “We had a blast exploring together and afterwards we knew this was something special.”
Then, after three years together, Kevin proposed to Anna on New Year’s Eve 2020 while they were on holiday in the Hawkesbury River area.
Kevin is Scottish and says there was no debate about what he was going to wear for their elopement – Scottish Highland attire, which includes a kilt, Ghillie shirt and plaid. The yellow pattern tartan for the Macleod clan was from A Highland Wedding Quilt Hire, which is in St Clair, Sydney.
Anna’s white lace wedding dress was from Lost in Paris.
For her bouquet, Anna chose colourful wild flowers and a matching hair piece, which she didn’t see until the day of the wedding!
The couple chose to elope at Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley. “It’s a beautiful area,” says Kevin. “There’s an endless supply of natural beauty, dramatic scenery, wild animals, and flowers.”
The couple opted not to have a traditional set up for their ceremony, but Anna did walk through the field towards the ceremony site to a cover of ‘You Make My Dreams’ by Alex Francis.
Recalling their ceremony, Kevin says, “Neither of us were nervous due to a sneaky pre-ceremony shot at the bar! We were both super excited about the whole day.”
“Just to add a little spice to the ceremony our rings were dropped through the decking that we were stood on,” reveals Kevin. “The rings were retrieved unharmed!”
The couple included the Scottish tradition of tying the knot.
Capturing their beautiful elopement was Society Photography. “We wanted as much coverage as we could so we could share our day with friends a family. We had both photography and videography including a drone to make sure we capture the stunning scenery,” says Kevin. The couple were thrilled with their photography team, led by Dave, who they say was really great and so energetic and enthusiastic.
Congratulations to Anna and Kevin on eloping in this absolutely incredible part of Australia! Wishing you all the very best on your new adventure as husband and wife. Thank you for sharing your story with us. We’d also like to say a big thank you Society Photography for sharing their amazing imagery from the day.
