There is quite an abundance of themes couples can focus on when creating their wedding vibe & style, and for those who are less confident when it comes to styling and choosing decor to suit their chosen theme, things can get confusing. The lovely thing about winery weddings is that they truly are such a canvas for so many themes, and one of these is the wildly raw and lovely, rustic theme. With that in mind, we thought you would find “On Theme: Creating A Rustic Wedding To Suit Your Style!” useful in your wedding planning journey, especially as part of our Winery Issue!
While it’s not exactly a winery, Roomba’s at Mount Aitken is one such venue that is the perfect backdrop for a rustic wedding. With a stunning cellar full of wine bottles & barrels, and exposed timber beams from 1884, its old-world vibe lends itself to so many variations of a rustic theme. We decided their team would be ideal to ask about how to create a rustic wedding for your day, and the different themes that work well with the rustic look.
Not sure how or where to start when styling a rustic wedding? Here are some tips and ideas to get you started! Rustic weddings have been a popular choice amongst couples, even more so now due to the flexibility and affordability that this style can offer. Not to mention the fun you can have finding bits and pieces to bring your ideas to life.
Let’s begin with the pros of choosing this themed style. The items needed can be re-used and can be super affordable. They don’t need to be expensive – they can be old items like a wheel burrow your Nanna has sitting in her garden. Anything old works so well. Such an abundance of items to choose from the list is endless as there are no wrongs or rights.
Here are some of the themes you can choose & styling elements to help get you on the right track!
Shabby-chic – using burlap and lace around vases or as table runners is the perfect choice for this whimsical take on the rustic theme.
Eclectic – is a little edgier! You can have bits and pieces on the table that don’t match yet create a unique style. Mixed in with some moss/twine and fairy lights is just so great for your photos.
Country/farm – also known as old-fashioned style is a great one as you can head off to a trash and treasure sale and pick up pieces for up to 50 cents, like an old post box to use as your wishing well. Or miss matching tea cups at each spot to pop your place cards in.
Autumn-themed – another great one! Collecting natural leaves/dried flowers and mixing them in with some fresh flowers and scattering them across the tables is not only free but yet so effective and the colour is rustic!
Last but definitely not least, how important is the venue of choice? Very! The vibe and look of the venue you choose can really help you on the way to creating a rustic theme for your wedding day.
When searching for your ideal venue older and country venues work really well. Looking for venues with barns or wine sheds in which you really don’t have to dress up the venue at all as it already has that rustic feel to it, will really help you.
Just remember the key to styling a rustic wedding is less is more & to have fun!
