With big smiles, fun moments, personal touches and pops of sunny yellow, you can feel the love, warmth and happiness of Sue-Ellen and Jamie’s beautiful day coming through these images – so skilfully snapped by Captured by Peta. The couple married at The Rifle Brigade Hotel, the very same place they first met, in an intimate yet relaxed micro wedding. As they said ‘I do’ at 5pm, they were surrounded by friends, family and their children.
But let’s rewind a minute. We know these two met at the pub, but how did the proposal go down? Jamie always joked that he wanted to ‘lock down’ marrying Sue-Ellen before he was 50, so in December 2020 he popped the question on a picnic in the Melbourne Botanical Gardens. Their original wedding date was set for two days before his 50th birthday… but COVID had other plans. They instead tied the knot on January 8, 2022.
Sue-Ellen purchased her wedding dress online, removed the sleeves and replaced them with a divine lace from Silk World in Kew. Her bride’s hairdo was by Kiah at EHB, and her makeup was by Georgie at Blush by Georgie. Sue-Ellen says they both were brilliant.
The couple had their adult kids as their wedding party. They could choose their own outfits, keeping within a black/grey/silver colour palette.
Sue-Ellen and Jamie tied the knot at The Rifle Brigade Hotel and say the venue was amazing. “We had to postpone once and then we were in the middle of a COVID outbreak for the actual day. They are wonderful people.”
Rosemary Taylor was the ceremony officiant, and created a meaningful, personal and relaxed ceremony. “Rosemary was absolutely wonderful and our ceremony was all we wanted and more!”
Jamie loved seeing his bride so happy, and feeling love and support from their people.
This was the table they sat at the first time they met. Sue-Ellen and Jamie loved snapping wedding photos there four years later!
Simone from Virginia Mary Florist arranged the bride’s gorgeous yellow bouquet. “She did a great job,” says Sue-Ellen. “I wanted relaxed and they needed to contain yellow.”
Peta of Weddings Captured by Peta was behind the camera on the day. Sue-Ellen and Jamie say she was awesome, relaxed, prompt with communication, knew what shots they wanted, and encouraged them to try different poses. “She captured the joy and made a couple of old ducks look pretty spunky!”
As for special details, the couple had a table to honour their beloved grandparents. They also had a special love spoon from Jamie’s sister who lives in Wales, as this is a special Welsh tradition.
The couple provided local wedding favours for their guests, plus doggy bags for their four-legged friends.
For their first dance, the couple choreographed a number to ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’. “We are huge dags and 80s tragics,” says Sue-Ellen. “It made everyone laugh and we had a great time.”
One of the best parts of their was catching up with loved ones, friends and family.
Their advice for soon-to-be newlyweds? “Do it for yourselves! Be happy. Be relaxed. Enjoy every moment as it goes fast.”
Thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous wedding day with us, Sue-Ellen and Jamie! We love that you said ‘I do’ in the place it all started and that you included so many sentimental details and fun moments amongst it all. We’d also like to say a big thank you to Captured by Peta for sharing her incredible photography – what a talent!
