We have long loved, and admired, the resilience, the tenacity of designers Sottero and Midgley. The brand collaboration founded in 2006 for the statement maker, has well and truly stood the test of time.
Today we’re bringing to life their brand new 2022 collection, the dramatic detail inspired by the drama of cinema. Of the “swells of orchestra symphonies, sharp angles, majestic views of a coastline, metamorphosis of light, and long-awaited embraces.”
These are the gowns inspired by love stories told on film, for red carpet moments, of your meet-cutes. Square necklines are softly tailored, sparkling fabrics glittering in the light, skirts are voluminous and take their spotlight. There are beautiful bows, corset bodices, incredible laces adorning sheer necklines, sheer capes, low backs. This is a collection that is so very much about stealing the spotlight.
The must add to lists? “Aerona” (pictured directly below), a simple silhouette, with a boned, corset bodice, that is really all about the subtley detailed fabric. The dramatic puff polka dot sleeves of “Carson” are an obvious choice for us. Next on our list? Simple chic and understated “Lulia”, a high sheer neck, draped to a simple, oh so elegant skirt or vintage crepe. Lovers of deep tones, will love the black lace of “Norvinia” in a classic ballgown silhouette, and finally, you’re going to love “Gibson” a stunning jumpsuit, that can be paired with an overskirt of tulle, for a mix and match, day to night, ceremony to reception look.
The Sottero & Midgley brand is designed to be affordable, but it’s also customisable. Many of the gowns come in a range of colours, and the brand allows you to choose details like button fabrication, linings, and detachable elements like trains and belts.
The only question is, which gown will you pick for your own red carpet moment?
