Happy Monday Dotties! On the way to Christmas which is just around the corner. Despite everything that we’ve been through (and at times we’ve felt as if we’ve been wading through treacle), when we look back, this year has passed by in a flash. Looking forward with excitement to all the beautiful weddings to be held in 2022!

We do love it when our country (or country city and town) based vendors choose to join the Polka Dot family and Weddings Captured by Peta is one such vendor. Based in Bendigo Victoria, Peta is honoured when you place your trust in her to photograph your wedding. Not only that, she takes the time to get to know you – and in knowing you she is able to build the photography around what is important to you, to deliver the best experience that she possibly can – from meeting you, right through to delivering your galleries – and even beyond as you embrace other changes in your lives. When spending the whole day together, friendships are formed, her enthusiasm for life is infectious, and above all she ‘gets’ your vibe whether it’s “country gal, nature lover, boho chick, retro enthusiast or a little traditional with a twist’. All the important details, the shots you can’t do without, the fun and the laughter – all captured forever to remind you of your fantastic wedding day!
We asked Peta of Weddings Captured by Peta five questions in five minutes:
Weddings are the best to work on because….
I’m all about being a part of a couple’s special day as their third wheel. Here to document it in a way that is as authentic as their love story is – unique, candid and beautiful. How a day comes together is always the most exciting part; and being a photographer it gives me literally access to the couple their entire day meaning I’m there from the boys’ first beers in the morning to the shoeys late that night on the dance floor. That’s usually more time with them than their friends and family get; which means I really get to share a huge part of their day.
What is something people would be surprised to know about your job or something that challenges you about your job?
I’m a sucker for a bride walking down the aisle and seeing her partner look at her in her dress for the first time. Often I find myself back home editing with a big smile on my face, loving reliving the moments that I captured and excited to share it again with them in digital and print form!
What is it about the creative process that you most enjoy?
I think like I just mentioned, the fact I get to spend such a huge chunk of their special day with a couple is really great not to mention the editing that takes back at home. I’m not about trying to fabricate a moment; I like to document the day as it unfolds and I think that when it comes to delivering the final gallery it’s a opportunity for my couple to re-live the day through candid moments I captured that they might not have even been aware of, which is super cool.
What are you hilariously bad at?
This is a damn good question haha … I get pretty excited about what’s happening and sometimes forget to feed myself on a wedding day. Meals start rolling around at the reception and I realise it’s been hours and hours since I last ate as I’ve been swept up in the day.
When you were small what did you dream of being and where have those dreams taken you?
I didn’t. Is that super non-cliche to say? I picked up a camera close to 5 years ago to capture moments around the home… and fell into lifestyle photography. Some beautiful friends took a chance on me and asked me to capture their wedding day – it turns out I fell in love with the process of documenting a wedding day and from that moment on I have been building my business to where it is today. Still very much in its infancy, but with more and more beautiful legendary couples booking their weddings with me and trusting me to capture what they want to cherish forever!
