Serendipity was at play when Alexandra & Alexander met when they were both 18 years old. It was quite a few years later they would reconnect and realise not only did they have matching names, but they also had matching personalities & dreams! Alexandra remembers, “We were acquaintances for a long time first. We met when we were 18 at a black tie ball in Wagga Wagga. We then continued to bump into each other at certain events for the next few years, until after living away I moved back to Wagga and who should I bump into at the first event – none other than Alex! We then realised we were legit the boy girl version of each other and thought this could be a jolly good life together!”
With gorgeous views overlooking Orange from Borrodell Vineyard, Alexandra & Alexander’s wedding was the culmination of quite a long love story! Captured exquisitely by Kirsten Cunningham Photography, we give you Alexandra & Alexander’s Sweet Sun-drenched Borrodell Winery Wedding!
The couple remembers, “Alex proposed in January 2019. We wanted to get away for a weekend to Mollymook but I just couldn’t find anywhere to book because of the school holidays. I remember I wanted to wait until February when the busyness had died down but Alex was really wanting to go away and saying, “Keep looking I’m sure we’ll find somewhere.” I had no idea he was going to propose and I was lucky enough to nab a beautiful apartment overlooking Mollymook beach. We had literally just arrived and put our bags down and I was looking at the view when Alex came up to hug me. I remember saying, “Why’s your heart beating so fast!?” And then he got down on one knee and proposed!”
I chose a gorgeous gown by Lenora Watters through Marry Me Bridal. It was simple and beautiful and was so comfortable to wear. I wore a broach which was owned by my grandmother and a bracelet from my nan. Two very special women who I miss dearly everyday.
Our wedding was held at Borrodell Vineyard which is the most beautiful spot in Orange. It’s perched atop a hill and has the most stunning view over the town. Working with Borrodell to make our day run smoothly was a very easy process, they did an amazing job undertaking all the behind scenes work as well as creating us a delicious sit down meal.
Did you walk down the aisle? What did you choose to walk down the aisle to? Who walked you down the aisle?
My father Rob walked me down the aisle to an acoustic version of Miles Away by Years Around the Sun. I still listen to the song today and every time it gives me goosebumps.
The ceremony was perfect in so many ways. Our celebrant Nat Shillington from Shillobrations was amazing. She delivered the ceremony in a way which made it sound like she’d known us our entire lives rather than just the past few months.
Our floral installations were a special part of our day because they were all created by Alex’s mother Cathy. Cathy runs her own wedding and event floristry business Farm to Floral. Cathy designed the stunning work which framed the arch we stood under to say our vows as well as gorgeous installation pieces for the reception. She also worked with Shiralee Archer who created the bridal party bouquets, buttonholes, and my hairpiece.
Our favourite moment from the day was between the entrees and the main course. Borrodell Vinyard gave us and our guests over an hour between the two courses where we could get up and enjoy the amazing sunset hour. Alex and I snuck away for a moment for incredible sunset pictures by the ever so talented Kirsten Cunningham Photography before coming back to mingle with our guests. It really was the most perfect hour, and every single image from the sunset shoot is our favourite from our wedding album.
Where to start! Kirsten has such an awesome vibe! She’s everything you want a photographer to be on the day, chilled and so, so happy. She is such a talented lady and we are so glad she was there with us documenting our special day.
We did our own little groove to ‘You Make My Dreams Come True’ by Hall and Oates for our first dance!
I think to finish, all we can say is your wedding day is the most incredible time of your life, and it was so wonderful to have so many loved ones there to celebrate our love. But at the end of the day, it’s the path after the wedding that really holds all the exciting moments, and Alex and I are already experiencing that. We welcomed a little baby boy earlier in the year!
Thank you to Alexandra & Alexander for allowing us to ogle their incredibly special wedding, and for welcoming their little boy! And also a big thanks to Kirsten Cunningham for sharing their stunning images.
