For engaged couples in today’s era of weddings, how a wedding cake looks is almost as important as it tastes. Sure – in the end, flavour really is everything. But you can’t tell me that when you look at a delicately designed and decorated cake you don’t feel your heart flutter a little! (… Just us?)
Jo from The Cake & I really is bringing the delicious black and white cake styling goods for us today. A little inspiration for those planning their black and white themed wedding, and let’s be honest… who doesn’t love to scroll through pictures of gorgeous weddings cakes! (… Just us again??)

The below 3 tier cake was created by yours truly – Jo from The Cake & I – and photographed by Ridhwaan Moolla. The styling was by Tiffany Keal and White Events, with flowers in matching hues of black and white by Fox & Rabbit.
Ms Rose: The cascading design is so unique and striking. Such a work of art! You could hardly want to cut into this beauty!

This simple 2 tier beauty was again created by The Cake & I for Gabby and Ben’s wedding, photographed by Jemma Keech. The styling was by White Events with flowers by Natural Art Flowers. A white chocolate mud cake with passionfruit ganache.
Ms Rose: The simple decoration of this one really works for me. The pattern is elegant and “just enough”. Almost Italian-inspired!

Doug and Leo chose to serve this elegant cake by The Cake & I for their guests at their wedding reception at the Old Pickle Factory. With alternating layers of barry chocolate cake with barry buttercream and salted caramel mud cake with caramel frosting, it really doesn’t get more decadent than this. Oh, and let’s not forget the extra caramel sauce on the side for serving! Photographed by Flossy Photography and styled by White Events.
Ms Rose: Jo, you had me at alternating layers of cake! And the extra sauce. Not to mention this cake is truly old-world glamour. Coco Chanel, if she were a cake!

A modern black and white, one-tier terrazzo design cake, perfect for a modern black and white themed wedding! Fun is achievable without arrays of colour! Photographed by Ridhwaan Moolla and created by The Cake & I.
Ms Rose: The terrazzo effect on this cake is so striking, and such a unique idea for a wedding cake. For couples who are after something simple yet eye-catching, this style is a winner!

Hannah and Matt’s wedding cake by The Cake & I was 3 tiers and almost all white, apart from the singular sweeping black design on the front of the cake, almost like the wind or a beautiful bird. Beautifully captured by Alannah Liddell with accompanying florals by Signature Floral Design.
Ms Rose: Stunning. Absolutely stunning. Almost a black swan is coming in to land on the face of this exquisite cake.

And last, but not least, one and my favourites, for Ella and Ben’s wedding 3 tier wedding cake by The Cake & I, photographed by Ross Wallace Photography, and elaborate, jagged white icing cake with hints of grey and black. Modern yet there was something ethereal about it.
Ms Rose: This stunning cake would work so well for so many different styles of weddings. Modern, romantic, elegant, timeless. It’s striking and soft all the same time!
