Wedding planning was not all fun for Jessica and Huy. “Our wedding plans were all thrown out the door when COVID hit, so we had to reassess the situation.” The couple postponed their original plans and instead opted for a small garden ceremony that was peaceful, romantic and utterly loved filled. As evident in every beautiful photography captured by  Jacob Gordon Photography.  “We loved finally being able to have our wedding after postponing for 6 months” says Jessica. “We realised that a simple wedding is best. Even after everything we had planned for the main wedding, this small one was perfect.”

Jessica and Huy have been in each other’s lives for a long time, their parents lifelong friends. So it was always going to be a natural progression for love to bloom. The proposal, right on point for Huy’s casual, laid back style. He tells the story “Knowing Jess, she would be onto me if I had planned anything substantial. I’m also a simple guy, so I simply proposed to her on her birthday at home. Following that, we went for lunch together at the same place where we first went out, some 4 years or so back.”

Huy wore a black tuxedo, Jessica remembering “We actually went to look at the suit together. We make all our decisions together, so there’s really no surprises. We both saw each other’s attire well before the wedding. Huy chose a classic tuxedo that was made to fit him.”

That incredible gown? It’s by designer Phuong My. Huy noting “Jess’ dress was simple and elegant. It was free-flowing and looked absolutely stunning on her. She actually went overseas to have it made by a designer who specialises in wedding dresses. So, I think the whole experience for her was quite fun. There are small details in the design which are pretty stunning.”

Dried floral arrangements featured throughout the day, styled by Ebb & Fleur. “They were all dry flowers, and arranged by a very talented lady” remembers the bride. “We kept the colour scheme to more pastel colours, as we didn’t want to detract the focus from the surrounding gardens.”

The couple opted out of a wedding party, instead of inviting all of their favourite people (that could travel!) to bear witness. “We told everyone to “dress to impress”, and to suit a garden-themed wedding. Everyone looked great!”

Jessica and Huy both walked down the aisle arm in arm with their parents, they walked to Beyonce’s rendition of “Ava Maria”.

Of their ceremony, the newlyweds remember “Our ceremony was short but sweet. We were both overwhelmed with emotion, particularly during the reading of the vows.” The moment above is also one of the couple’s favourite photographs.

Jessica and Huy hosted their ceremony at The University of Western Australia Sunken Gardens. “We chose the Sunken Gardens mostly for the garden. It’s such a lush and beautiful setting. Also, it was January, so a leafy, garden wedding helps to mitigate the heat.”

COVID-19 restrictions meant Jessica and Huy had to postpone their dream wedding reception, so instead they spent their afternoon roaming Perth with their photographer for stunning photographs.

Jessica and Huy have endless good things to say about their choice of photographer. “Where do we start! From the onset, Jacob has been fantastic. He made us very comfortable, and we could easily tell that we were on the same page – on both a professional and social level. Aside from his photography skills, he actually contributes to the day and makes it more fun for everyone. It wouldn’t have been the same without him.”

The biggest of congratulations to you both Jessica and Huy! How happy we are that you got the chance to tie the knot. Thank you both and thank you to Jacob Gordon Photography for sharing today’s wedding with us.
