We’ve been raving about Melbourne designer Cathleen Jia for what seems like years, but in truth, this talented designer has only been crafting stunning gowns since 2013. It’s been a jam-packed eight years, to say the least!
And just like us, it seems Cathleen also decided 2021 is the year of the rebrand, because alongside the launch of her “Signature” collection, that we’re sharing today, she’s also relaunched her own brand, with a look that honours her “contemporary-meets-timeless approach”.
“Signature” honours the journey Cathleen has been on, and the road she has paved ahead. The collection is filled with some of her own best selling prices, and some of the classics that had stayed steadfast and much loved throughout the brand’s eight-year history. There are ten beautiful gowns, “Rey” in luxe silk satin, takes the on-trend slip gown and makes it “wedding”, “Ivana” a classic beauty with a simple v neckline and deep v back. These gowns let the wearer take the spotlight and provide that hint of understated, chic glam that lets the wearer style the gown up (or down) however they please.
And then there are mix and match separates too, my favourite, the “Kelsey” top transforming an otherwise unadorned gown into something a little whimsical with her sheer, polka dot overlay. There are bottoms too – “Braxton” shows off edgy style- pants with side calf splits, while “Romina” is layers upon layers of polka dot tulle & silk organza. Cathleen, of course, has even designed the finishing touch – five veils, all beautifully complimentary to her fashion pieces.
Says Cathleen “Classic elegance and sophistication are guiding principles for our label – we pride ourselves on creating bridalwear with a fashion sensibility, allowing our pieces to transcend the wedding day and become cherished heirlooms.” And in times when we are taking a slower approach to our day to day, where we reevaluate what is important to us, doesn’t that sit just right?
The new collection is available via Cathleen Jia’s Melbourne salon (open by appointment) or via her website.
