So you and your partner have decided to drive in and get married, you’ve said… “Yes.” Well, now it’s time to say yes to that dream traditional bridal lehenga for one of the most special days in your life. Planning and shopping for any aspect of your wedding does get daunting in the midst of all the excitement. And finding an outfit that makes you feel great on the big day does at times feel like an overwhelming task.
We (Dulhan Exclusives) have been in the bridal clothing business since 2003 and we have seen lots of clients walking in to our store – some confused, some overwhelmed, and some completely clear about what they want! So we have put together some important things to consider and some helpful tips for shopping for your perfect traditional bridal lehenga.

Be clear on what you’re after
In this age of “all things online”, you can just search and find so many designs, colours and styles to look at – it’s all a click away! While this sounds so good, you might end up with too much information and too many options and become confused.
So it’s really important to do some research before hand and narrow down it down to two to three colours and also the style of the lehenga choli.

Comfort is king
Trends are wonderful, but don’t forget to be comfortable too! It’s a big day and you want to make sure you can wear the design with freedom, grace and poise!

Notice the colour palettes
When it comes to bridal lehenga, the first colour combination that comes to mind is red and gold. This perfect pairing is traditional, beautiful and ever lasting. But remember it’s not the only option. These days the bridal outfit colour palettes are drastically changing. Lots of brides are opting for something different. This has led to bridal lehengas emerging in gorgeous greens or pastel pinks, baby blues or subtle golds. When you are shopping for yours, go through the colour charts and select a tone that goes well with your skin too. Don’t be afraid to choose something different. You never know, you might start a trend!

Choose to coordinate
You and your better half are meant to be a match! Then why not coordinate the wedding outfits too. Choose the colour and embroidery which will eventually coordinate well with your partners outfit too. Coordination will make for long lasting memorable photos of the big day. You wont regret this one.

Consider your accessories
When you are out shopping for your lehenga, keep in mind the accessories you would like to wear with it. As they say, “Accessories make or break the look”, which in our opinion is true to a great extent. Make sure you combine the lehenga with some beautiful matching or contrasting accessories. Go bold or soft. Whatever you feel like… you are the queen of the day, after all.
The perfect fit
Any bridal lehenga from a store will need at least some alteration to fit you the best. The choli (the top/blouse) will also need to be stitched to your measure. Hence, you will be called in for a fitting session at the store. This is the day when you get to try the outfit and determine for yourself whether you find it fitting perfectly or you need any further changes done. Be calm and attentive to each detail. Leave it on for some time and walk around the store in it. In regards to making a decision of how it fits, it has to be only yours. You can ask your family or friends whomever has accompanied you to the fitting session for opinion. But the final decision is yours.
Start early
And last but not least – start the shopping early. If possible, give yourself at least three to four months before the wedding day to shop for your bridal lehenga. If you need anything done bespoke, it does take time. Also when you have time on hand, it will give you comfort in finding those matching perfect bridesmaids lehengas or groomsmen dresses once the queen and king’s outfits are decided well in advance. So start early to end happy!
