Danica & Chris
Pour yourself a coupe of champagne and don your bow tie, because today’s wedding is utterly packed with gorgeous, glam details, chic wedding day style and an abundance of stunning blooms. It was, as the bride and groom dreamt “Elegant & fun, gold & blush, formal turning in to a Gatsby-style party”. With Rosie Hastie behind the camera, our newlyweds, Danica and Chris donned their finest, married in a gorgeous garden, and delighted their guests with boat ride to their flower-filled reception. And if you think it’s all about the glam, oh it’s also all about the food. From a Spanish grazing table, to freshly shucked oysters and a cigar and whiskey bar – this wedding was as much about the unexpected joy, the unexpected deliciousness as it was about the couple and their story and we can’t wait to show you!
It seems a beautiful new beginning for this couple who almost didn’t happen Danica telling their tale. “We were set up by a mutual friend. It was a date that almost didn’t happen, but thankfully with the assistance of a good old mobile phone, we made it!
We were planning to meet at a local coffee shop Dr Coffee (there are two in Hobart) I arrived at one of the locations whilst Christopher arrived at the other. Both feeling stood up, we quickly text each other and met halfway at another coffee shop/bakery Daci Daci.”
The groom popped the question at the scene of one of their more successful first dates. “Christopher planned a bushwalk to a location where we had one of our first dates at Cathedral Rock, Hobart.
He & our dog Gilbert got down on one knee and popped the question!”
Chris opted for a classic tuxedo, working with Bell and Barnett to design a white jacket with chic black lapel.
Danica had long loved the work of Melbourne designer Jason Grech, so she knew he was the one to create her wedding gown, telling “I chose to get my wedding dress made in Melbourne from my favourite designer Jason Grech. It was a year-long process, every single visit was an exciting experience.
Jason understood what my dream dress was to be! It needed to have a lot of detail and just be the unexpected with my personality shining through! The lace used was divine!”
Danica and Chris chose the beautiful gardens of Corinda for their ceremony, telling “Corinda is a private property located minutes from Hobart CBD. The gardens at the property we both fell in love with and the history of the home. We were able to get ready at the venue & stay on the wedding night.”
Danica walked down the aisle on the arm of her father, remembering “We both love The XX and we had a string quartet learn their song “The Intro” which sounded beautiful. ”
“We wanted it to fun, intimate, loving & inclusive” remembers Danica of the couple’s ceremony. “Both Christopher and I spoke at the ceremony and we had memory candles lit for my friend who had passed away and Christopher’s brother – this was so special for us to have them both included in our day.”
Guests were picked up with a double-deck red bus and transported to the Brooke St Pier where they boarded a boat for the reception.
Guests enjoyed freshly shucked oysters on the boat ride to the reception (alongside the groom’s brother performing saxophone live), thanks to the bride’s love of food and her careful planning. She explains “I’m quite the planner and organiser! Every detail needed to be thought of and nothing missed! We wanted to ensure there was plenty of food, drinks and fun the entire day!
From the Spanish grazing table at the ceremony to freshly shucked oysters on the boat until we sat down for a formal meal at Peppermint Bay! Finishing with a pink champagne wedding cake made by our good friend to the hot chips served on the boat ride home – nothing was missed!”
Danica and Chris loved having photographer Rosie as a part of their celebration. “Rose is a friend of ours and we just had to have Rose shoot our wedding and be a part of our day! She’s a 10/10!”
One of the DIY elements of the day? A custom-built cigar and whiskey bar by the groom, which Danica describes as “one of the definite highlights of the evening!”
Each guest was gifted a bottle of Knocklofty Spirits “Love Elixir” gin as a wedding favour.
The reception was adorned with beautiful, lush floral arrangements designed by Botanical Hobart. Danica remembering “The flowers were the main component of the styling for the day. It was our focus, we both adore flowers and we wanted the best!
Whites & pinks were our colour palette and Kate Sice and the team from Botanical went over and above to provide us with the most magnificent florals for our day! Kate and Andrew worked for days preparing fur our wedding florals and even stayed back to wrap all the flowers at the end of the night for the ladies to take with them.”
The first dance allowed the couple to blend the formalities with a sense of party, Danica explaining “We wanted to end the formal part of the evening tying into the party that was about to start!
We danced to the string quartet playing Savage Garden’s “Truly Madly Deeply” which the DJ cut in halfway through. It was fun!”
