Ella & Sean
We’re signing off The Engagement Issue with an absolute treat. Ella and Sean’s engagement party is a treasure trove of inspiration, with a dessert donut bar, breathtaking flower crown, custom neon sign and DIY styling including some dreamy looking balloons!
Wanting to create a fun, relaxed event, the pair chose to hold their engagement party at Room for a Pony in Hobart. To nail their brief, Ella says, “We made sure we included live music, cocktails, yummy food, a dessert bar, and lots of cute decorations – especially balloons – as well as having a ping pong table outside for big kid entertainment. We created a large balloon garland ourselves, using balloons from Ruby Rabbit for the front entrance of the building, we think this was one of the big features of the event.”
Ella and Sean have been inseparable since meeting at an athletics carnival when they were 15, and say that because they have been together for so long, they know everything about each other. The pair became engaged while holidaying in Europe back in 2016.
“Sean proposed whilst we were in Venice, Italy,” tells Ella. “We were travelling with two of our best friends. Sean was so nervous, it was the most beautiful proposal. We took a gondola through the canals of Venice at sunset, Sean got down on one knee in the gondola and asked me to marry him. When he got the ring out of his pocket he accidentally dropped it, luckily it landed in my shoe, not overboard/through the cracks of the boat. He had been carrying the ring around in a pair of socks in his backpack whilst we had been travelling – apparently that was the only spot he didn’t think I would find it. It was such an overwhelmingly exciting moment of our lives. Safe to say we had a very big night of celebrations with our two best friends Lewis and Anita in Venice. A lot of espresso martinis were had. We did get a little bit lost trying to find our way back to our accommodation that night.”
Their favourite details from their engagement party include Ella’s skirt from Match Made Bridal and her flower crown made by The Floral Criteria. The beautiful speeches from Sean and from Ella’s mum were also big hits, not to mention the Nutella donuts!
Behind the lens on the day, capturing all the incredible details, speeches and fun moments was Cherrie of Acoma Photography. Ella spills, “She is amazing and we love her! We have worked with her a lot over many years. She is our friend and one of the most talented women we know.”
