We’re kicking off a fresh year of beauty around these parts and it’s all about the dark, the moody and the utterly stunning as today’s dream team celebrated the Pantone colour of 2018, the mysterious “Ultraviolet”.
Led by photographer Translucent Photography and designer Studio B Couture, the team took to the moon-like landscape of Bombo Headland Quarry. Cinematographer Top Chois Productions was on hand to capture a shoot that was inspired by the magical nature of the deep and dark night sky (scroll down for the film!)
Our bride, Emma Jensen, looked anything but traditional, wearing a sparkling ring by Fairina Cheng Jewellery while dressed in a stunning inky layered tulle skirt by Studio C Bridal. A custom leather jacket by The Marker by Gillian Dinh added to her look; the words on the back “Stars Aligned, Hearts Entwined” as written by Charlie Writes acting as the shoot’s poetic theme.
Emma wore naturally styled hair and makeup by Emma McGill complemented by a whimsical Piccolo Petalo floral hairpiece. She walked through the raw landscape, to marry her groom Damien Jensen, who was dressed in a chic pairing of black and blue by Tarocash. The pair stood in front of a beautiful floral arch, with Rebecca Ramsay making it “official” to the sounds of live string quartet Unique Strings.
The flowers, which embraced the beyond imagination concept, were dreamt up by Crissha of Piccolo Petalo. The floral designer used tones of grey, violet, blue and blush and filled the floral arrangements with Blue Moon roses, pink dyed phalaenopsis orchids, sprayed painted gypsophila, korokia twigs and fluffy pussy tails to create a look that was soft and romantic against the rocky cliffs.
Tying into the theme of stars, constellations and all things galactic, Studio B Couture‘s cosmos inspired stationery suite was hand painted to reflect the moon like landscape and dreamy, ethereal nature of the shoot. This was tied together with a modern geometric pattern, dusty blue chiffon fabric and a silver die cast floral charm. The suite paired alongside a dreamy tablescape that played with candles, velvet and cascading blooms, all topped with a tall tiered cake with violet marble detail and touches of silver foil by Sugarpot. Tinted backlights were designed to give the reception the illusion of a picnic on the moon itself as the sun set.
Designer Lorelie of Studio B Couture tells of her inspiration, “Into the Cosmos began as a celebration of the Pantone colour of the year UltraViolet. It showcases the magical and mystical properties of the colour and celebrates the joining of two souls with the quote ‘stars aligned, hearts entwined’ (created by our very own shoot poet) taken to heart. The Bombo Headland’s clusters of hexagonal basalt columns are an internationally recognised geological phenomena. It was this look that made us dream of the rocky surface of the moon and from there everything from the setting to the accents was styled to give the sense of being out in the cosmos and landing at a romantic evening picnic on the rocky surface of the moon.”
One of my favourite shoots. Leather jackets on brides FTW! Thanks for publishing Polka Dot Bride!
