Romance comes easy to many honeymooning couples but we could all use a little inspiration now and then.
That’s where your location comes into play.
And when it comes to locations, the Whitsundays are all kinds of romantic.
As part of Whitsundays month, I spoke to Tourism Whitsundays General Manager, Natassia Wheeler, to get the lowdown on one of Australia’s most amazing holiday spots.
“The Whitsundays is the absolute epitome of romance and perfect for couples seeking a memorable getaway,” she said.
“Home to 74 islands, award-winning luxury five star resorts, the Great Barrier Reef and the world-famous Whitehaven Beach, the Whitsundays offers unparalleled romantic excursions for couples of all ages and interests.”
Ok, you have my attention, Natassia, but why should honeymooners choose the Whitsundays?
“The Whitsundays is truly paradise on earth and consistently ranks among the best tropical honeymoon destinations in the world.”
With world heritage-listed icons like Heart Reef and the “largest living structure in the world”, the Great Barrier Reef, the Whitsundays is the “most romantic backdrop for any honeymoon”, Natassia says.
If it’s price you’re worried about, the “island paradise” has everything from luxury to affordable island resorts to mainland stays.
“With secluded islands at your fingertips there is nothing quite as romantic as landing on one of the islands via your own private helicopter and enjoying a picnic for two with no one else around.
“If you can’t decide on just one island you can attempt to explore all 74 of them by charting a bareboat to create your own unique Whitsundays honeymoon experience.”
So with that in mind, here are just a few of the ways you can get absolutely immersed in romance in the Whitsundays.
Whitsundays Bliss
Looking to splash out? The Whitsunday Bliss is a luxury yacht which you can hire for a romantic getaway. The Bliss, named according to how you feel when you’re on board, comes with a captain and fully qualified chef. Picture yourself kicking back on the yacht’s foredeck sun lounge reminiscing about your wedding day and planning for the future. More information here.
Beach Club
Yes, there’s a heap of accommodation to choose from in the Whitsundays, so why Beach Club? Well, for one, it’s exclusively for guests aged 18 or over, so if you’re not really up for the sound of little ones splashing around your island getaway, this is the place. Think peaceful, boutique vibe. There’s also an infinity-edge pool (heated in winter) and the location provides access to Catseye Beach. More information here.
Qualia
Natassia says when it comes to “pure romance”, you can’t beat the day spa at Qualia. The world class luxury resort is billed as a “private world of sensory perfection on Hamilton Island”. Pronounced kwah-lee-ah, which is Latin for “a collection of deeper sensory experiences” the on-site spa will send you into absolute relaxation mode.
“Spa qualia is a sanctuary where you can relax in blissful reverie,” they say.
“Placed at the heart of the resort and is perfectly situated to catch the soft sea breezes and tranquility of the beautiful surroundings, making it the ideal place to unwind.” More information here.
Sundowner Cruises
Two words rarely evoke visions of romance as much as ‘sunset cruise’. Take in the lights of Airlie Beach and get up close and personal with turtles at Turtle Bay on Sundowner Cruises. More information here.
