Karli & Didier
Sometimes all you need is a relaxed celebration with beautiful moments, beautiful details and a love-filled story to kick off your day. And with photos by Sorrento Wedding Photography, I would say Karli and Didier’s relaxed, elegant wedding at Trofeo Estate certainly fits the bill!
It was actually at another wedding that these two first met! Karli remembering, “We met when we were both invited to be in the bridal party for mutual friends about five years ago. Nothing happened at the time but about a year and a half later we started chatting and haven’t looked back since!”
The bride chose a white sequin gown by Karen Willis Holmes. She tells, “I went shopping with my mum and sister on High Street, Armadale about six months before the wedding and they both agreed that I had to get the dress! loved the style of the dress and how it had an Art Deco sort of feel to it. I tried on a few different styles of dresses but kept coming back to this one! It was really comfortable to wear on the day and I loved the way the beading picked up the light.”
Karli and her mum, along with bridesmaids, styled the floral details themselves, “My mum, two of her friends and I created all the bouquets and button holes for the wedding. I ordered all the flowers we wanted from a local fresh fruit shop and we spent the Friday before the wedding creating the bouquets, button holes and decorations for the venue. They were unique and designed exactly as we wanted them and it was nice spending the day together before the wedding.”
Karli and Didier chose the Mornington Peninsula’s Trofeo Estate for their wedding remarking, “We looked at so many different venues but liked that Trofeo allowed us to personalise our day. The location of the ceremony and the interior of the building were beautiful. We had about 130 guests attend so we needed somewhere that was happy to cater for that amount of people. It was really nice for Didier and I and our families to plan different aspects of the day and get excited together. We went to the venue a few times with our parents before the wedding day for a glass of wine and just to get a feel on how the day would work which was really nice so it was familiar to us on the day.”
Rohan Smith officiated the ceremony, Karli remembering, “Our celebrant, Rohan Smith, gave the ceremony a really personalised feel and also included a bit of humour to make us more relaxed on the day as we were both so nervous! We had two readings picked out individually by two of our close friends; ‘This Marriage’ and another one that I’m not sure of the name. They were both really beautiful readings and were edited a little by our friends to make it more personalised to Didier and I. We had live acoustic music playing before the ceremony and while canapés were being served after the ceremony when the bridal party were getting photos taken. A DJ played during the reception for the rest of the night.”
Karli added a special family piece to her look, telling, “I wore a small gold pendant on my necklace that was given to me by my late Grandma. I really wanted to wear something of hers so was very happy that it suited the dress well.”
Tells the bride, “My bridesmaids included my sister and three of my best friends that I have grown up with and Didier’s groomsmen were four of his best friends that he has grown up with. One of his groomsmen even made the trip over from America to be a part of our day.”
Of their photographers, Karli remarks, “They were amazing and took beautiful photos. They both made us feel so comfortable on the day and the photos tell the story of the day perfectly. We received the photos when we were on our honeymoon a month later and were so happy to be able to look back and reminisce on what was a fantastic day. They captured the day perfectly!”
Guests enjoyed a delicious homemade cake, tells the bride. “One of my best friends/ bridesmaids, Amanda, made our wedding cake which looked amazing and was delicious and we were so appreciative that she spent so much time and effort to create it.”
As a treat, the newlyweds spoilt their guests with a whiskey bar from The Whisky Company. The bride notes, “Didier is a big whisky fan so on the day we hired a whisky company to set up a bar and pour a few different varieties of whisky as well as a couple of gin cocktails. It was a big hit with our guests and made our wedding a bit more personalised to us.” Guests each took home a bottle of Trofeo Estate wine as a wedding favour.
Karli remembers, “I loved when we entered the reception for the first time as husband and wife after having our photos taken. We were so excited and on cloud nine and everyone was cheering and seemed so happy to be there to celebrate with us. It was really special being surrounded by our closest friends and family and having everyone together at the same time.”
Karli remembers, “The speeches made by my dad, sister and our best man were so heartfelt and really nice to share with everyone.”
Karli notes, “We didn’t do the first dance as we wanted the day not to have too many formalities and just have more of a party atmosphere.”
