Katie & Ben

For Katie and Ben, a wedding was about nothing more than pledging vows in front of their favourite people. So they ditched tradition, planned an engagement party for just a few months after they became engaged and surprised their guests by turning it into a wedding! If a fuss-free wedding is your jam, then this wedding will be right up your alley! Every carefree moment was captured by One White Day.

The groom talked his way into meeting the bride, who is a real estate agent, “Our sisters were friends and had been trying to set us up but I wasn’t so keen. Ben contacted me to talk about his investment property and the rest is history.” The groom proposed on holiday in Galle, Sri Lanka.

Katie and Ben invited guests to celebrate their engagement at Middle Brighton Baths. Katie explaining, “I’ve grown up my whole life in Brighton and my Dad swims at the baths each morning so the venue was perfect for us. Nice and local and has the most amazing views in Melbourne. We were incredibly lucky with the weather and had a perfect sunset.”

Guests were surprised with the wedding announcement during speeches, says the bride. “Ben had a Best Man stand next to him and give a speech and then we had my niece and nephew and Ben’s two nieces walk down the aisle in front of me.”

Katie walked down the aisle with her father to Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years”.

Katie and Ben were married by Jill of Celebrate Life. Katie notes, “The ceremony was very relaxed and simple. The celebrant Jill went to school with my Mum so it was lovely that we knew her.”

Mordialloc Florist created a sweet white bouquet for the bride. Katie says, “The flowers were from Mordialloc Florist and the owner there did everything. I didn’t have a lot of time to organise everything so she was amazing and they looked gorgeous.”

The newlyweds kicked off their celebrations with a first dance as soon as they signed their marriage certificate, Katie explains, “We did our first dance straight after signing the wedding certificate to ‘Signed Sealed Delivered’ and danced with the four kids while the sun was setting in the background.”

Of their photographer, the bride tells, “Mark was referred to us by another friend of mine and he was great! We hardly knew he was there and lots of beautiful candid photos were taken.”

The bride wore two dresses, marrying in a tea length Thurley dress. She explains, “I was lucky enough to have two dresses as we got married at our engagement party as a surprise. The first one was a tight black/navy one from Dion Lee to try and throw everyone off the thought of getting married. The second one was a white lace Thurley.”

“We loved just seeing how much love was in the room and especially peoples’ faces when we got married and they thought they were there for an engagement party.”

Congratulations Katie and Ben! Thank you for sharing your beautiful day with us! Thank you also to One White Day for sharing today’s celebration!
