Delicate snow flurries, serene forest scenery, alpine architecture and of course après ski aplenty – a ski trip is equal parts romance and adventure, making it an idyllic honeymoon choice for winter-loving couples.
But, after you’ve booked that Instagram-worthy log chalet and signed up for ski lessons and a lift pass, the dilemma of what to pack may leave you feeling frosty.
With bulky layers and limited suitcase space to contend with, plus those plummeting temperatures to prepare for, it can be tricky to know what pieces you really need to pack!

Here are our must-have items for ensuring you stay snug and stylish at altitude:
The thermal base layer
On a sub-zero day, it’s what’s underneath that counts! No matter whether you’re skiing or strolling through the town, a good set of heat-retaining thermals is a suitcase essential. For tops, look for long sleeves and scoop neck styles that offer stretch so they’re comfortable to wear under knits, and choose breathable merino wool, fleece lined and moisture wicking options for maximum warmth and wearability. For bottoms, opt for thick legging styles that include fleecy linings and ample stretch. Try the Heattech range by Uniqlo for ultra-insulating options.
The puffer vest
Perfect for layering, a puffer vest is a hardworking addition to your ensemble. Often padded with an insulating down or feather fill, they’re ideal for wearing under coats and over knitwear. Opt for a zip front style with a high collar and thick padding in a neutral tone (think navy, black or cream) to ensure maximum wearability. Try J.Crew for a selection of styles which are practical, yet smart enough to wear out to dinner over a sparkly knit.

The insulating snow boots
As magical as walking through a winter wonderland can be, it can also be downright treacherous if ice and steep inclines are involved. Your go-to ankle boots or trainers will not cut it on slippery trails and will do little to banish those below-freezing temperatures, so investing in some alpine appropriate footwear will definitely be worthwhile! Boasting extra thick soles with excellent traction, waterproof technology and insulating interiors, snow boots will keep toes toasty whatever the weather. For extra heat retention and breathability, be sure to wear pure wool socks. Try Columbia and Sorel for a range of stylish and super warm options.
The all-weather coat
Waterproof, windproof and ultra insulating – these are the essential criteria for your new coat! Even if you already own a coat or two, it’s likely they won’t stand up to snow showers and blustery winds like a purpose designed outer layer will. Opt for a mid-thigh style to help keep your legs warm and look for snow friendly features such as interior padding, taped sleeves, high collars, fleece-lined hoods and inside pockets to keep your phone and camera safe and dry. Plus, choose a size up so you can fit all your cosy layers underneath. Try Uniqlo and The North Face for super snug options.
