Amy & Travis
Honestly, if Spring brings one thing to life we love – it’s garden weddings! The romance of pretty pastels, beautiful blooms and the dappled shade of the trees is not lost on me and the romantic Mount Helena backyard wedding captured beautifully by Amy Skinner Photography.
The story of how these two came to be unfolded at work. Travis remembering “The very moment I laid eyes on Amy, I knew I was going to marry her”, with Amy telling “I remember seeing him walk through the room, his smile lit up my world – at that one moment, I remember feeling everything was going in slow motion”.
Travis finally asking for Amy’s number – the couple’s first date was meeting all of Amy’s immediate family, with her Mum’s famous lasagna!
The bride found her Sophia Tolli gown at The Gown Gallery. She remarks “Countless dresses were tried on, whilst looking for the perfect dress. Then one day we went into The Gown Gallery, Sophia Tolli designer wedding dresses were in store for that weekend only. The ‘Maeve’ dress was one of the first I picked out – it was love at first sight. I think you know you have found ‘the one’ when it brings a tear to your eye when you look in the mirror.”
The couple had chosen another venue before cancelling it for a backyard wedding, Amy explaining “In our minds, the venue was simple – all we wanted was beautiful green grass, with trees and an area for a big white marquee. We had originally booked a vineyard, but as time got closer, we had been to Amy’s Uncle’s property in Mt. Helena and decided to change venue. We fell in love with this place. It was exactly what we had been looking for. Open space, lots of greenery, beautiful wisteria vines, a lake and baby ducklings and chicks to top it off!”
Amy walked down the aisle with her father to Train’s “Marry Me”. Upon her arm were two horseshoes – also carried by her mum and aunties on their own wedding days.
Wendy Clark performed the ceremony, Amy remembering “The ceremony was beautiful – hearing each other’s vows was simply breathtaking. It was a very emotional experience.”
Of their photography, Amy tells “Amy Skinner is simply amazing! We had so much fun on our bridal shoot. Amy made everyone feel so relaxed. It was fun, easy going and thoroughly enjoyable! The photo shoot at the Wild Goose Cafe was one of the highlights of our day. Lots of laughs and sneaky kisses were had by the Bride and Groom!”
Lace Petals & Hearts styled the bouquets and styled the celebration, Amy explaining “The flowers were simply amazing! I always had an image in my head of what I wanted, but could never find the perfect match on Pinterest! My sister, Hannah, found Lace, Petals and Hearts online. The very first time we met with Jess, we just knew she was the lady to style our wedding & create the most beautiful bouquets! They were picture perfect – everything I had dreamed of!”
Most of the wedding decor was handmade by the couple, Amy remarking “I can recall many nights where my lovely Bridesmaids, Mum & Aunties came around for a girl’s night to decorate jars with lace, hessian and ribbon. Mum made beautifully handcrafted dream catchers. Rustic wooden signs were made from scratch and painted. Old, rustic wheelbarrows were collected, as a feature to keep all drinks on the day icy cold. All furniture was sourced ourselves.”
The newlyweds chose Dirty Dancing’s “Time Of My Life” for their first dance, choreographed through many nights spent on Youtube!
Swift Hound Films captured this beautiful day that I think so wonderfully tells the story in motion.
Congratulations on your marriage Amy and Travis! Thank you for taking the time to share the stories of your day with us! Thank you also to Amy Skinner Photography for sharing today’s beautiful celebration!
