I was lucky enough to sit down for a (virtual) glass of bubbles with this gorgeous lady, Jerri Jones. Jerri launched her eponymous label, JERRI.JONES in 2014 in Melbourne, with her husband, Nathan Jones – you may recognise him as the AFL Captain of Melbourne. Inspired to pave a road away from trend focussed, disposable, ‘fast fashion’, Jerri wanted to rediscover the appeal of simplicity, longevity and quality pieces worth investing in. Each season, Jerri curates a small collection of luxe leather essentials for men and women – dependable classics with timeless appeal.
Today, we chat with Jerri about her business and of course, we couldn’t help but ask her to spill the details about her Fitzroy gardens wedding in Melbourne too.
Tell us about you and your business:
I have a fashion label I started 3 years ago called JERRI.JONES – The label focuses on luxury classic leather and easy wearing wardrobe essentials. I am a believer in less is more and this is true in my brand’s ethos and product offering too.
Tell us about your wedding?
Our wedding was a big party, and that was the way that we approached planning the event! We got married in 2012, the ceremony was in the Fitzroy gardens in Melbourne and the reception followed directly after, across the road at COMME. We didn’t want guests to wait hours in-between, so we had quick photos for 30 mins whilst our guests had cocktails. We planned the speeches and formalities early. During speeches we had the room transformed to move all the tables out and the DJ and Photo Booth set up – so the party could kick off! 5 years on, we still have guests tell us fondly that they had such a great time, which is exactly what we wanted to achieve.
What was your most memorable moment (or moments!)?
My friend gave me a great piece of advice to take some time to just my husband and myself, to soak it all in and enjoy a quite moment together. This was amazing advice as you have so many loved ones there, you tend to split up and try and speak to everyone! After our quick photos, we had a cocktail together before joining our guests which we remember fondly now – as the whole day just goes by in the blink of an eye.
If you could change one thing what would it be?
I had two dresses, which I loved, one off-the-rack simple classic lace dress and one custom party dress made by Kyha from One Day Bridal. If I was to do it over, I would have one gown crafted by Kyha instead!
Who were your favourite vendors?
- One Day Bridal: A dream team and I wholeheartedly recommend. Over the years, I have become great friends with the very talented designer and owner, Kyha. She has since dressed me for 5 Brownlow dresses too.
- Papyrus Designs: Crafted us our beautiful wedding stationary.
What advice would you have for others planning their wedding?
To remember that the day is about celebrating you and your partner’s marriage – don’t get caught up in details or issues that don’t matter in the long run. Enjoy every moment and be true to yourselves. Don’t be afraid to shy away from traditional wedding style, not everything has to be wedding-y!
About Jerri Jones: Jerri is happily married to AFL Melbourne Captain Nathan Jones and they have 2 beautiful children together Remy (one) and Bobbi (three).
