If there is one way we celebrate New Years Eve here at Polka Dot Bride, it’s with a celebrity wedding countdown (See 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008 and 2007)
2016 was all about the destination wedding- private estates and homes setting the scene for beautiful weekend long celebrations and countries like Morocco and Hawaii becoming beautiful choices for celebrations with friends. Which weddings did you love this year? Leave us a comment and let us know!

The wedding of Wiggles Emma and Lachlan was always going to be much awaited and the couple chose a beautiful homestead in Bowral for their big day. Emma chose a gown by Suzanne Harward with a crown by Viktoria Novak, the groom adding his traditional Scottish tartan to his suit and the couple celebrating with their 200 guests with plenty of live music!
Emma and Lachlan’s wedding was such a huge wedding in Australian pop culture this year – a beautiful long sleeve gown, gold crown and all the stories that came with it becoming a big part of wedding talk this year.

A candlelit wedding was on the cards for Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Cutter Dykstra celebrated with their son Beau Kyle in Palm Springs earlier this year. Jamie Lynn choosing an Oscar De La Renta gown for her walk down the aisle.
We’ve seen so many weddings of three this year – Jamie-Lynn and Cutter a beautiful example of involving your children in your day and still creating a day that’s yours.
Anna Camp and Skylar Astin

I do wonder how many Pitch Perfect puns I have made for the wedding of Anna Camp and Skylar Austin who married in California this year. The bride chose a beautiful strapless gown from Reem Acra, the groom donning a classic black tuxedo from Ermenegildo Zegna.
It was always going to be a big celebration when these two tied the knot and they were a gorgeous example of using social media to share the day – Anna sharing plenty of sneak peeks in the lead up to the day.
Agyness Deyn & Joel McAndrew

It was a sweet affair for British actress Agyness Deyn as she wed Joel McAndrew. The bride wore a blush tulle midi dress by Milly Goddard with blue shoes, to her Brooklyn wedding, carrying a bouquet of orchids and wheat.
With coloured gowns being more in vogue than ever, the non-traditional styling of Agyness’ blush pink ensemble was so beautiful for the urban styling of the day. The use of wheat mixed with orchids just one way bouquets were turned on their heads this year.

Eva Longoria and José ‘Pepe’ Bastón choosing a wedding in Mexico for their big day. They wed twice- the second ceremony being in their own backyard. Eva wore three gowns designed by her best friend- Victoria Beckham for the weekend-long festivities.
It was lovely to see chic, fitted gowns like Eva’s being worn by more brides this year – the understated styling worked beautifully with the simple bouquet and black and white colour scheme which many couples still love and adore.

When swim star Michael Phelps decided to tie the knot in Cabo, they chose a beautiful beachside resort ceremony and were accompanied by their baby boy. The wedding was actually their second- the couple tying the knot in Arizona a few months earlier.
Private estate weddings were a favourite for couples this year and this stunning setting with a laidback vibe the perfect example of how beautiful detailing and glam moments can still tie into that laidback vibe.

A Santa Barbara wedding was the setting for Eniko Parrish and Kevin Hart’s August nuptials. The couple celebrated with guests at a private estate. Eniko choosing a decadent lace applique Vera Wang gown while Kevin looked dapper in his classic black tuxedo. Guests celebrated with a lavish reception full of flowers and crystal chandeliers.
Sparkle and shine were something we saw a lot in 2016. Eniko and Kevin’s decadent florals and black tie styling something that many chose for their own days.

A destination wedding in Hawaii was a beautiful way to celebrate the nuptials of Audrina Patridge and Corey Bohan. The couple wanted a bohemian feel for their wedding using tones of pinks and peach throughout the day. Special guests included baby daughter Kirra who was just four months old on the wedding day.
A little laid back, a little bohemian. This wedding was right on trend for 2016 with florals in blush pinks and reds, beautiful gowns and pieces and a laid back feel.

The bride Dianna Agron chose an incredible beaded Valentino wedding gown as she celebrated her wedding to Winston Marshall in a weekend long celebration. The magic country set the scene for a weekend celebration of close friends and family.
Weekend long celebrations and destination escapes have always been popular, but this year saw them turn into curated experiences for guests. Dianna and Winston guiding their guests through decadent dinners and celebrations that surrounded the wedding itself.
Jesinta Campbell & Buddy Franklin

We had to end our roundup with an Australian celebration! Jesinta Campbell and Buddy Franklin married in a surprise wedding in October this year. The bride chose a custom long sleeve Vera Wang ball gown before changing for something sleeker for their clear top marquee reception.
The outdoor celebration was a favourite amongst couples this year – as was the choosing of multiple gowns just like Jesinta did. The choice of ballgown still as popular as ever – especially when as beautiful as this!
