When Freddie Met Lilly

Images by We Are Twine

I was recently invited along to the launch of When Freddie met Lilly‘s latest Indianna Bridal Collection, hosted by Mirra Private Dining and Events in Fortitude Valley. An audience of 300+ entered the beautiful converted warehouse via red carpet, stopping for photo opportunities along the way.

Sofi Spritz offered guests an all-Australian wine spritzer upon entry, and scrumptious canapes were floating around the room compliments of the chef. However, it was the gorgeous aisle and floral archway – a collaboration between AVIdeas, Beautiful Weddings, and Kate Dawes Flower Design – which rightfully took centre stage and set a good expectation of what was to come.

Giaan Rooney introduced the evening, starting with a taster of When Freddie met Lilly’s recent Hepburn-esque Collection, shown at New York Fashion Week. This was followed by the main event, their latest Indianna Bridal Collection, which showcased an array of bridal and formal gowns featuring lace, sparkles, and dreamy backs. Impressed by the variety of hues and fabrics, I spoke with designer Vanessa Hoe to get the inside word on her latest collection, New York Fashion Week, and her top tips when searching for your bridal gown…

What influenced your Indianna Collection?
“There was a strong influence of blues, greys and gold tones this year in the Indianna Collection, and we also wanted to project modern edginess against soft romanticism. We love the fusion of modern with vintage! Our current muses are Cate Blanchett and Margot Robbie, who helped shape the nature of the designs. Each one of our brides seeks a gown which is sleek, playful, comfortable and modern, but also injected with traditional vintage bridal vibes.”

You recently showed at New York Fashion Week. How was this experience?
“Our NYFW collection was very well received, and is still being acknowledged, particularly on the Australian market. We even had clients travel interstate to see us in Brisbane the day after we got back from the US!”

Any tips or advice for brides on the hunt for their perfect gown?
“When looking for your bridal gown, be sure to have some questions ready for your consultant. They need to be your new best friend, and learn lots about you to discover your perfect design, or perhaps create something bespoke just for you! Also, know your budget, and don’t be shy about spending what you feel comfortable with – your perfect dress will be within your budget. Bring along only one or two loved ones to your appointments, it is important to listen to your own feelings and to have their support will be lovely back up.”
