Now that you have the details sorted for your wedding ceremony, it’s time to think about what type of wedding reception you’ll have – and most importantly, what food will you serve? Long banquet tables outside under the stars or an intimate cocktail party with a sophisticated vibe? This can be a bit tricky sometimes. Different weddings are suited to different brides.

At Your Private Chef, we think it’s just not as simple as opening a book, going to page 3 and telling you this is the best type of wedding to have. We really need to find out more about your personality, both as a couple and as individuals and work backwards from here. This is your day and your wedding needs to be a showcase of who you are. Do you prefer the royal treatment or the relaxed laid-back feel? Do you want the focus to be on mingling and socialising or more of an intimate style experience? Are you outgoing and active or a more reserved and traditional type? The focus is on getting to know you first and what suits you; here are some of our favourite styles of reception with food to match.

Antique and elegant. Three course fine dining comes to mind? Set up and style your venue as if the king and queen were coming to join you.

Offbeat and electric. A canapé and cocktail party is the first thing we think of! Pick and choose your favourites from your caterer’s canapé menu and have these handed these around as you and your guests socialise.  Talented bartenders can also whip up some gorgeous cocktails. Mojito anybody?

Tasteful and timeless. Shared platters are interactive, plentiful and engaging. Presented beautifully over the centre of your table on a buffet, there is something for everyone in this feast for the eyes.

Breezy and laid back. Picture this… the BBQ roaring away under the fabulous Australian sun while children run around barefoot and laughing. The aromas of the fresh seafood will set the scene and have all of your guests asking for more! Think about several gourmet BBQ options – from canapés on the grill to a variety of buffet options to suit all styles.

Which one would we choose?  Shared platters are one of our favourites – Mediterranean antipasto platters followed by substantial grazing plates (love the braised succulent lamb shanks with a choice of sides!) and then a selection of mini desserts – think flourless chocolate cake, poached rhubarb and raspberry sorbet – to finish the night!
