Georgie & Tom
The modern feel of Georgie and Tom’s greenery filled Richmond wedding is such a urban take on a traditional wedding. Ditching their idea of a small wedding in New York, they chose instead to celebrate at home with a wedding that was full of family and friends and exactly the mood and vibe that reflected them. Relaxed, with plenty of good food and of course, dancing. Daniel Brannan was there to capture every moment.
Georgie and Tom chose Terminus Hotel for their wedding, noting “The Terminus Hotel in Richmond is one of Tom’s venues. It was recently completely refurbished and modernised inside whilst the exterior was untouched to keep a piece of its rich history.”
Georgie remembers, “There were so many favourite moments! Tom’s three best friends Andy, Doug and Matt were our MCs, but they did so much more than just MC. The boys organised a red carpet outside the venue for my arrival, and when I stepped out of the car onto the red carpet, all of our wedding guests were lined up on either side of the red carpet to welcome me – everyone was clapping and cheering and smiling and it was just such an incredible moment.”
“We had our brother and sister act as witnesses when we signed our registry, and our two nieces acted as our flower girls – they wore stunning green and white flower crowns made by Cecilia Fox and white and silver sequinned dresses by Seed.”
Andrew Henley officiated the ceremony, the bride remembering, “We had a bit of a ‘greenery’ theme which began with our venue, The Terminus Hotel – the venue is painted a very bright green colour, with a lot of natural greenery inside and a very cool palm print wallpaper on the ceiling. Our close friend Scott at Swear Words agency designed an incredible custom green invitation and envelopes that featured a similar palm print. We also had an incredible floral arch created by our florist Cecilia Fox that was covered in stunning greenery and white flowers.
We wanted the vibe to be extremely relaxed, casual and fun – more of a big party than a formal wedding, and just a chance to celebrate and eat, drink and dance with all of our friends and family.”
Georgie tells, “The lead up was fantastic, Tom’s best friends organised his bucks day a few weeks before the wedding and it was the most incredible, unforgettable day – they started with a run around Albert Park Lake, then had lunch and cocktails at the Prahran Hotel, and then ended up in a private room at the Casino with a piano (which Tom played and sang songs at) and poker – all the boys were dressed in tuxes and it was a very classy affair with all of Tom’s closest friends.
My best friend and bridesmaid Kate organised my hens day a couple of weeks before the wedding and we had a ‘white’ theme – there were thirty girls dressed all in white and we had lunch in a private room at The Stables of Como in South Yarra overlooking the beautiful garden there. The room was decked out with stunning white floral arrangements and each place at the table was set with a stunning handmade white flower crown which all the girls wore. We ended up having cocktails and dancing at the Prahran Hotel until the early hours of the morning.”
Georgie wore a gown by Jane Hill, noting, “The service at Jane Hill was exceptional.” Georgie’s bridesmaid wore a white gown from Camilla and Marc while the gentlemen wore suits from Henry Bucks.
Georgie notes, “We had a brilliant photographer Daniel Brannan, who we met with a couple of times prior to the wedding and who just got us straight away and understood exactly what we wanted.”
There was yet another special surprise in store for these newlyweds, the bride remembering, “Tom’s favourite musical is Les Miserables (he is obsessed with it) and in the lead up to the wedding, his best friends Andy, Doug and Matt had organised a surprise for the wedding which was a flash mob involving a big group of our friends and a surprise performance of a version of ‘One Day More’ from Les Mis, but they had adapted the lyrics so that it was a version where Tom and I were singing different words about the day before the wedding – it was absolutely hilarious.
Andy, Doug and Matt secretly contacted a group of our friends and organised two practice sessions – they were given the new lyrics to the song and had to practice the song and dance, and then on the night at the wedding they surprised us with this hilarious music and dance performance mid wedding – we were absolutely blown away!”
“Another favourite moment was when, during Tom’s speech, he surprised me by singing a song at the end which he had been practicing for weeks – ‘She’s Got a Way’ by Billy Joel. He had been secretly practicing for several weeks without me knowing at his friend Andrew’s, who played keyboard for him, and it was just so incredible – I had to try very hard to hold it together and I could see all my girlfriends crying in the audience while he was singing!”
Food was very important to the couple who chose Ed Dixon Food Design to cater the event, noting, “We really wanted a focus on delicious food and drinks, and our caterer Ed Dixon Food Design did the most incredible job – we had things like Southern Fried chicken, Asian dumplings and buns, salted caramel and popcorn mini ice creams, and the most amazing espresso martinis that were brought out at around 10pm pre-dancing!”
Dancing kicked off with DJ Kieran O’Sullivan. Georgie adding, “We wanted to get married because as soon as we met we knew we were meant to be together and we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. Being with each other just feels natural and right, and we can’t imagine our lives without each other. Life is better and makes more sense when we are together, and we wanted to make this commitment to each other and celebrate it with all of our friends and family present.”
The bride remembers, “The boys also organised for a friend to create a surprise film that was projected onto the wall at The Terminus towards the end of the night – they had interviewed our mums, and put together a series of snapshots of Tom and I growing up, and then arranged for a friend, Miles to film Tom and I getting ready during the day for the wedding separately, and then our wedding arrival and ceremony. Miles cut together all of these moments and created a short film as a surprise that was screened during the wedding and it was a very emotional moment, it was such a happy movie that all our guests just loved!”
Congratulations on your marriage Georgie and Tom! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you to Daniel Brannan for sharing today’s wedding.
