Are you thinking about surprising your groom with an engagement or wedding ring? These days, it’s not always the groom who pops the question – more and more brides are comfortable with the idea of asking for their groom’s hand in marriage, or taking the lead in selecting a man’s wedding ring once the engagement is announced. If you intend to surprise your groom with a ring, here are some things to consider to make the process an easy and romantic one.
Figure out a budget you’ll both be comfortable with.
Not spending enough on a man’s wedding ring is not typically a problem, however spending too much can create an awkward moment during the reveal. Weddings are not cheap and financial stresses can bubble to the surface if one partner unveils a surprisingly large and unexpected expense. Know what your groom will be comfortable with for a ring budget.
Choosing the right metal.
If you want your rings to match closely, it is best to choose the same metal. But if you have room to explore other options, then the metal is probably the most visible characteristic of a men’s wedding ring. Gold, Tungsten, Titanium, Platinum and Silver are the most popular choices, and you should explore the unique characteristics of each, which include price, durability, comfort, hypoallergenic qualities, weight and the overall “look” of the ring.

Perhaps you might like to choose a pattern that relates to him or have an engraving made on the inside of the band.

Get the correct size.
If your groom does not currently wear a ring, getting the correct size can be a challenge! You may consider asking his mother, sister, or friends to measure the diameter of his finger however this risks exposing your plan! You may surreptitiously compare one of his friends fingers to his, and then ask the friend or his partner for their ring size. Getting the correct size is not always that important unless you are getting a special ring made as most good jewellers should have a friendly exchange policy; so go ahead and get creative in order to make the most informed guess.
