Alice & Luke
When it’s Summer, all one wants to do is be by the water and it is exactly the way that Alice and Luke celebrated their waterside yacht club wedding. As an artist, bride Alice runs her own brand KeepResin and had a keen eye for the feeling of the wedding day. They chose Georgia Wiggs Photography to capture their day.
The day was filled with greenery and succulents arranged by Colin Hyett and Kelly Parish of Spider & Lily.
Alice wore a gown from Collete Dinnigan and remarks, “So my dress was from Collete Dinnigan and I absolutely love it! The process not so much! I found the dress on my third day of serious shopping and by this stage I was well and truly over it. I began in David Jones in the city as I didn’t have my heart set on a white dress so it was a great place to start where everything was in the one building and I could test out shapes etc. I then progressed onto bridal boutiques which I crammed appointments all into the one day which left me seriously overwhelmed and not very inspired at all!
Finally on the third day I was shopping with my dear friend Hattie on High Street in Armadale and the day started off like the previous going into typical bridal boutiques and we couldn’t find anything. Fed up by this stage we went down to Mister Zimi as we just wanted to feel like we had bought something! I walked away with a couple of dresses and on the way back to the car Hattie pointed out Collete Dinnigan over the road and said we should go and have a look. I literally couldn’t be bothered crossing the road I was that over it!
We browsed the racks and could fortunately go up the back, as they didn’t have any appointments at that stage. I spotted the Rococo gown and it ticked all of the criteria – little sleeves, vintage, unique, not figuring hugging etc. The assistant bought out the same dress but with a sheer neckline and as soon as I tried it on I knew it was the one! I never thought I would be that girl. Hattie and I were in tears and couldn’t believe that we had found it! I had to purchase it then as the store was closing down the following week so I couldn’t put it on layby or even show my mum.”
The groom and groomsmen wore suits from Top Man.
The day’s celebrations were held at Davey’s Bay Yacht Club, Mount Eliza. Alice remembering, “Davey’s Bay Yacht Club holds a special place in our hearts, it was where I sailed as a young child and it was also where I held my 21st Birthday Party, which was an alcohol free event where we played the egg and spoon race, sack races and the doughnut game. As soon as we started looking we just knew it was perfect as it’s a stunning white weatherboard building with a retro feel, close to the water and nice and protected from any bad weather.”
“It is so hard to pick (my favourite moments) just as the day just felt so surreal. The favorite moments would have to be the car ride in the VW Combi van with the roof off, the stunning boat ride to the yacht club, walking down the aisle with my parents either side of me.”
There were many memorable stories of the day, the bride remembering. “The best man left our rings at home, the other groomsmen left his speech at home, a huge market umbrella blew over 5 minutes before we arrived by boat, our boat skipper did a huge unexpected burnout in front of all the guests whereby we all nearly fell overboard!”
Alice walked down the aisle to “Beneath The Mango Tree” by Angus & Julia Stone.
Jenny Georgiadis officiated the ceremony, Alice telling, “Neither Luke or I are religious so we wanted to ceremony to reflect that. We had a beautiful reading read by our dear friend Lu by Louis de Bernières, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.”
“My absolutely favourite moment was when Luke and I were out on the pier, just the two of us, looking back at the Yacht Club and we could see and hear all of the love and laughter.”
As for the style of the day, Alice tells, “The inspiration came from hours spent trawling Pinterest. I wanted the theme to be more coastal than your beachy/nautical. Hence why there was a an abundance of driftwood, succulents, beautiful raw timber tables, linen napkins and other raw materials. The yacht club and the view out to the water itself is so stunning so we didn’t want to take away from that.”
Heartwood Hire provided the raw wood tables for the day, the bride remembering, “The favorite detail from the day for us was the tables. Not only did they look stunning covered in succulents, candles driftwood and linen; they looked even more amazing when surrounded by our friends and loved ones enjoying the beautiful food and company.”
“All of our vendors were amazing, however particularly our Rachael Nicholas (Hair and Makeup), Georgia Wiggs (Photography) and Heartwood Hire all combined made the process all that more enjoyable and really went above and beyond their job description!”
Maude Street Catering set about creating a feast worthy of a wedding for the newlyweds and their guests.
“We wanted to have the day as a technology free day so when all the guests had been seated in the yacht club our hilarious MC Adam played a prank and caught someone on their phone and picked it up and literally threw it over the balcony into the water! Needless to say everyone got the point and still don’t know that it was all planned!”
The bride’s friend gifted her a flower crown to wear for the reception.
Congratulations Alice and Luke! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to Georgia Wiggs Photography for sharing today’s wedding!
