There is something particularly special about stepping back in time and for April and Dan, that’s exactly what they wanted to do for their sixties soiree wedding day. The sixties vibe was coupled with a fun atmosphere and a restaurant reception, the entire day with a fun, retro vibe. They chose Alana Blowfield to photograph their day.
Of how they met, April tells, “We met through friends at a party and then Dan asked me out when he saw me at a festival cause he liked my gumboots!”
April’s look was completed with a very special pair of earrings, she explains, “My earrings that I wore on my wedding day have a pretty special story. I brought them about 15 years before the wedding day, just because I thought they would be good for if ever one day I chose to get married. I kept them until I knew I was getting married and they fit just perfectly with everything that I had chosen. Although I never really planned to get married it is strange that I kept the earrings for that very reason.”
Of her dress, which she found on ASOS , April tells, “I loved my dress because of its vintage feel with detailed lace and beading. The shift A-line cut fitted perfectly with the 60’s theme of our wedding.”
April and Dan chose a first look for their wedding, noting, “We woke up together and had breakfast at the hotel before meeting up with our bridal party to get ready. It was a nice surprise to then meet up a few hours later and see each other and dressed up for the day. It was pretty exciting!”
Of their photographer, April tells, “I have known Alana for years, she was a perfect choice to share our day with us. We love her natural, candid style of photography and knew she would be easy to be around and make us feel comfortable in front of the camera. We love our photos!”
“I loved my bouquet of billy buttons, succulents and daisies. They complimented the look and style of our day.”
Table 78, West Perth hosted an intimate courtyard wedding for April and Dan, who tell, “Table 78 is a heritage listed house in West Perth which is a restaurant by day. We loved the shady courtyard for the ceremony as we got married on a summer’s day. The polished floorboards, high ceilings, pressed tin and wallpaper were all features that we liked and knew were a good fit for us.”
Of the decorations, April tells, “Being an interior stylist this was something I wanted to put my creativity into. I designed the chalkboards with messages, colour scheme, table arrangements, a bunting for our ceremony backdrop and the styling of our gift table. The table flora was succulents from my Grandma’s garden which I potted with my Mum and my Oma (Dutch grandmother). The overall colour palette was yellow, grey & white.”
Nathaniel Ditchburn officiated the ceremony, the bride noting, “We wanted our ceremony to be casual, relaxed and intimate. We invited our 60 nearest and dearest to share in this special time with us. Both Mum’s signed our certificate of marriage as our witnesses.”
Congratulations April and Dan! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to Alana Blowfield for sharing today’s wedding!
Her short wedding dress is gorgeous!
