Mount Lofty House Honeymoon Getaway

Nestled high in the Adelaide Hills only a short 15 minute drive from the city centre sits the stunning Mount Lofty House. The stone manor has sweeping views of Piccadilly Valley and beyond that are gorgeous all year round. Established in 1852, it oozes old world charm but with the modern-day conveniences.

The manor sits on 18 acres of manicured gardens and bushland, including its own Chardonnay and Pinot vineyards, three towering redwoods and a grove of oaks planted at the time the house was constructed. Mount Lofty House also provides guests access to the tennis, volleyball and badminton courts, croquet and bocce. You can’t get much more romantic and debonair than a game of croquet in the garden, with a glass of local wine in hand!

The hotel offers couples the choice of either an expansive guest room in the manor including a balcony with awe-inspiring views or a private cottage tucked away amongst the stunning grounds. My favourite being the Tower Suite, set over two levels, with a contemporary loft upstairs and ensuite featuring a double spa. With views overlooking the stunning grounds, it is incredibly private.

I would recommend the “Touch of Romance” package if you are looking to make your honeymoon that little bit more special. The package includes one night’s accommodation in the Deluxe King Room, a five course locally sourced degustation dinner with matching wine, a grand breakfast, a choice of two spa treatments and a late checkout, so no need to worry about the morning rush. There are also many other packages to suit your taste and budget.

This breathtaking region offers couples plenty of romantic activities. Take a scenic drive on Tourist Route 51 that winds it’s way through the Adelaide Hills. National parks, viewing vantage points, vineyards and berry farms are just a few of the many things to do along the way. I highly recommend making the 14 minute drive from Mount Lofty House to the stunning German town of Hanndorf. It is known to be Australia’s oldest German surviving settlement and with all its breathtaking heritage, you’ll feel as if you are in a quaint country village in Germany itself.

A Mount Lofty House honeymoon is all about European-style country villages, old world romance, scrumptious food and picturesque views – without the jet-lag and stamped passport! I recommended taking the trip in Autumn when the colours are at their best, not to mention their ambient open fireplace. Pure honeymoon bliss!
