I’m not sure what I love most about today’s wedding, because I think this industrial outdoor wedding is pretty awesome in all ways. From the glowing green backdrop of the ceremony site to the New York rooftop feeling of the reception. The endless little touches like herbs in the floral arrangements as a nod to the groom’s love of cooking just round out what was a pretty magical wedding day. Kath and Glen chose Artography to photograph their celebrations.

Kath tells their story. “Glen and I met at a dinner event during the Noosa Long Weekend Festival – there were probably about 120 people at the event on mixed tables of 10 – Glen took his mum to the event and I went with one of my chef friends. People could sit anywhere they liked – his mum spied some spare seats on our table and came over – she left a seat beside me and Glen had to choose if he sat next to me or on the other side of his mum – he sat next to me and we immediately found out we had so much in common and I knew I wanted to see him again.

It was his 30th birthday and I surprised him with a flight to Sydney and a 10 course degustation dinner at Australia #1 restaurant at the time, Momofuku Seiobo, he was so excited. Around the 7th course, he got down on one knee and asked me if I would do him the honour and spend the rest of my life with him as his wife. Turns out all our family and friends knew about both my surprise for him and his surprise for me.”

The bride wore a gown from Elizabeth Da Varga and paired it with a hairpiece made by her groom’s mother. “Finding the perfect dress was a good experience for me. I have always loved Elizabeth De Varga. My gown was off the rack and an absolutely lucky find. The quality is amazing. You can tell each dress is made with love and attention to detail. It was the first dress I tried on. I tried many more on after that but just could not stop thinking about it – that is how I knew it was the one.”

Willow Bud Flowers styled the herb filled floral arrangements, Kath telling, “Our bouquets and button holes were designed by our florist and filled with herbs to symbolize Glen’s love for being in the kitchen.”

“Family is super important to us – my nan was one of our flower girls. We actually did a gift exchange to our parents. We wanted to publicly thank them for their support and for making us the people we are today. We found little items that had special meaning to us and each of them.”

Kath and Glen chose Tewantin RSL Park for their wedding ceremony. Kath walking down the aisle to a special song chosen by Glen – Forever by Ben Harper.

Penelope Watson officiated the ceremony, the bride noting, “Penny was amazing right through; from the moment we met we both knew she was perfect. She listened to what we wanted and more importantly listened to what we didn’t want and designed the perfect ceremony that was just so “us”.”

The bride’s niece shared a reading “When the one whose hand you’re holding, is the one who holds your heart  

When the one whose eyes you gaze into   gives your hopes and dreams their start. 

When the one you think of first and last,  is the one who holds you tight.

 And the things you plan together,   Make the whole world seem just right,

When the one whom you believe in  puts their faith and trust in you,  you’ve found the one and only love,  You’ll share your whole life through.”

“I love that Glen wanted to be involved in planning every part of our wedding. He very much valued that weddings are a celebration to begin a marriage and are as much about the groom as they are about the bride. He is romantic – I really love the sweet little things he does like if we are going out for breakfast and I forget my sunglasses he will insist I wear his. He is very supportive of our dreams and always knows how to cheer me up.”

“We had two special locations for our photos – just around the corner is a fantastic market. After emailing the owner they allowed us to pop in for 15 minutes to get a few shots. Glen and I shared many a date at Clandestino Roasters Belmondos and we have always loved the décor in there with the old plane suspended from the ceiling ,we knew it would work in well with our style and we had the perfect photographer to capture it.”

Of their photographer, Kath notes, “We booked Artography the day after we got engaged. We knew they would be perfect for our style and we were right, we had to have them.”

A Noosa bridge stood in for the Brooklyn Bridge, Kath telling, “The next scene was down by the Noosa River on a bridge – the shot turned our perfectly and will now replace our Brooklyn Bridge print on our wall at home.”

Green Cathedral Design Gallery was chosen for the reception, the bride remarking, “We would have loved to have been on a rooftop in NY city but we wanted all our family and friends to be there so running off to the ‘big apple’ to get married was not an option. Noosa is our home and our best friends own an amazing design Gallery in the Industrial estate so they let us use their space to create our dream wedding. We had the cocktail hour upstairs in their furniture gallery and then moved everyone down stairs on sunset to the “street alley”.”

Maison De Provence created a semi naked wedding cake.

The couple embraced the industrial rooftop feel of their day, telling, “Glen’s brother designed a street art graffiti piece to go behind our bridal table and we hired an outdoor projector to project images of a NY city skyline onto a big wall – I absolutely loved it!”

Kath notes, “Our guest book idea is pretty special to us – we both enjoy cooking together and Glen being a chef has a massive cook book selection that he absolutely loves. We requested all of our family and friends to RSVP with a their favourite recipe so that we could collate them all into a beautiful recipe book to cherish for years to come. We got all sorts of recipes a couple of “secret” recipes from grandparents, some of our childhood favourites like nan’s special rissoles and some cheeky recipes like one that was ripped straight off the back of a packet mix mac and cheese. The plan is to cook one recipe each anniversary together and remember our special day.”

Guests were invited to do their own graffiti “We also set up a little graffiti canvas guest book with stencils for our guest to use.”

For the first dance, Kathryn remembers, “We had Michael Buble’ version of “Feeling Good” We wanted a song that we knew we would hear in times to come and make us remember our day.”

True to his love of food, Glen served up mezze plates for the guests and surprised his new wife with a special treat! Kath explains “Glen had a surprise for me just after entrée – he and his best man (who is also a chef) made some sorbet this was presented to all guests with dry ice… spilling out over the glass – it was amazing and looked fantastic.”
