Yuni & Kurtis
There is a lot to love about the wedding of Yuni and Kurtis. Firstly- it’s a Summer rooftop wedding and who doesn’t love being under the balmy air in Summer as the sun sets? Then there’s ice cream, there’s balloons, mini transformer figures (Kurtis’ favourite) and of course, the best part of all – donuts! They chose the lovely team at It’s Beautiful Here to capture their happiness.
Kurtis tells the proposal story. “We had just finished a year long renovation of our house and Yuni had brought to my attention that it was possibly time to go on a date night seeing I wasn’t working on the house in all of my spare time. Of course I waited a couple of weeks after that to make it seem like my idea. I told her to dress up after work and I’d take her to dinner. We jumped in the car and drove to Crown where she asked what we were doing in the valet parking section and I dropped that we were staying here and sorry I forgot to mention that.
After checking in and finding our room, Yuni was looking out over the Melbourne Skyline. I asked her to have a look at something and she turned around, at which time I did the down on one knee thing and asked her to marry me. Afterwards we headed down to Nobu and had a celebratory meal while Facebook got updated and congratulations came in.”
The bride designed the stationery herself and had it printed at Stitchpress. She tells, “As a graphic designer, I’m very picky when picking the right paper stock, colour and fonts to use so as a result the invitations took the longest to prepare and execute.”
Yuni chose Pamela Usanto to make her wedding gown, noting, “Pamela Usanto for her craftiness and making sure every little details of the dress is perfect. I had a rough idea of what sort of dress I wanted but I wanted to see what else was on trend so I went to a bridal store with my sister first. Sadly there was nothing that jumped out and made us go ‘Aw that is the one…’.
I’ve been following Pamela Usanto’s work over the last few years so I decided to organise a meeting with her for a consultation. We got along well instantly just like we were old friends. The first sketch hit all of the right notes for me. She hand-stitched the floral lace together to compliment my figure in all of the right places. One special thing about Pamela, she always named every wedding dress after the bride’s name which showed that it really was a true representation of the bride.”
Kurt has collected transformers since age three, so it was only natural that his collection played an important part in the couple’s wedding day.
Buds and Roses created the fresh Summer floral arrangements.
The groom, bride’s dad, brother and brother in law set up the balloons and donuts at the wedding venue on the morning of the wedding (I’m not sure all the donuts made it though!)
Yuni and Kurtis chose True South for their wedding, noting, “We started our relationship after a big night out at a rooftop bar so we started looking for a rooftop venue outside of the city. True South was featured on The Age as one of the upcoming rooftop bars so we went there on our date night – Yuni loved the food, Kurtis loved the beers, and it helped that they brewed it themselves. The rest is history.”
Yuni and her bridesmaid walked down the aisle to Better Together by Jack Johnson.
Dave Glazenbrook officiated the ceremony.
The couple handmade their centrepieces – terrariums complete with transformers (although sadly, only one transformer made it home).
Guests received test tubes of Melbourne Rooftop Honey as wedding favors.
The bride’s sister made the wedding cake. “I love the cake because my sister who was 8 months pregnant at the time made all of the cupcakes during hot summer days.” The guestbook a canvas print of photo collages signed by each wedding guest now sits proudly in the newlywed’s home.
The couple chose Can’t Take my Eyes Off You by Franki Valli for their first dance.
Andrew Healy Music coordinated the music for ceremony and reception, leading to a great dance party, just as the newlyweds wanted!
