Candice and Lyndon
My husband, Lyndon, (still sounds weird!) and I met overseas in a bar in Canada, when I was new to traveling; finding the love of my life was the last thing on my mind. However, after spending time in different countries – sometimes together, sometimes on our own – I realised we kept coming back to each other and that whilst I hadn’t been looking, I had certainly found the man for me.
When I flew back to Australia, I moved back to his home town of Brisbane. Quite a shock for a beach loving girl who had spent the last six years in Sydney – and the rest is history!
I will never forget the day he proposed. He whisked me away on a secret trip to Hamilton Island. We woke up early and hired a small boat to do some fishing on the open water. We pulled up to a private beach for a swim and there in the ocean he got down on one knee and proposed. I don’t think I even gave him the chance to properly ask the question before yelling, ‘Yes I’ll Marry You!’
We decided on Little Cove in Noosa for our wedding ceremony. We both love the beach and the idea of getting married with the sand between my toes sounded perfect to me. I wanted to have an elegant, classic wedding but with a touch of ‘beachy casualness’ to reflect our personalities.
When I woke up on the morning of the wedding the sky was completely black and it was pouring! Luckily it turned into a beautiful sunny day with blue skies; we couldn’t have asked for better – it was magic! Nick Evans Photography was there to capture every moment; the photographs were so amazing!
The boys wore lovely navy suits and my bridesmaids wore beautiful blush gowns from Zimmermann. I wore an ivory Delphine Manivet gown from Anna Dafonte which I loved. Both of our mothers looked amazing; my mum was such a superstar on the day and during the lead up to our wedding. She’s my absolute rock!
I loved spending this time with the girls, but one of my favourite moments had to be when my Dad saw me for the first time. It was so nice to have that special moment with him.
We walked down the aisle barefoot and I asked my brother to play and sing an acoustic version of ‘I Would Walk 500 Miles’ which he had composed himself. It is one of Lyndon’s favourite songs (I love it too!) Lyndon had no idea I had organised this and said it was such a great moment when my brother started to play that song!
Our ceremony was so lovely, full of laughs and a few tears. We were able to tailor our ceremony to tell our story which made it even more special, especially the vows we each had written. I couldn’t have been happier when they finally announced us as husband and wife, with the sound of the ocean behind us and our favourite people cheering!
We chose to have our ceremony at Sails Restaurant Noosa, just a short stroll from where our ceremony was held. Our guests arrived to canapés, drinks and a fresh seafood and oyster bar on the grass overlooking the beach, as they listened the beautiful sounds of jazz singer Tamara O’Callaghan and her three-piece band.
I had a real vision for the styling of my wedding and really enjoyed designing it. My colour palette for the day consisted of blush, white, black and navy – with a hint of burgundy for a bit of drama.
The reception was styled with these colours including black and white striped napkins, white candles, beautiful white and blush flowers, including one of my favourites – peonies!
Our guest favours were homemade chilli oil (to spice things up!) We included pictures of our favourite couples in frames for table numbers; the overall look was so lovely, elegant and modern. Coupled with the beautiful jazz music, it was such a lovely atmosphere.
As the night went on there were plenty of laughs, incredible food and some amazing speeches. My speech included telling Lyndon how I felt about him, with a song! I sang Tina Turner ‘Simply the Best’ which was such a blast!
After Lyndon and I left to a farewell of sparklers and hugs, we walked along the beach back to our accommodation; one of my favourite memories is when we looked at each other and said, “that was the best day.” And it was the absolute best day ever.
Ms Chinoiserie Says: What a happy day Candice and Lyndon! I love the choice of colours for a casual beach wedding – just perfect!
About Candice: I recently married the man of my dreams and although everyone always tells me life isn’t like the songs or movies, it certainly was for me! A beautiful beach, fantastic party, marrying my Prince Charming in front of the best people I know. And best of all, there was hardly a moment without a laugh or a smile and a whole lot of dancing! My favourite colour is blue, I love good food and wine, keeping fit and am most at ease with the sand between my toes!
